I am a “cheese-o-holic”. I can’t go a day – literally – without enjoying some kind of cheese whether it’s mozzarella, cheddar, American or Feta. I rarely find cheeses that I don’t like. Well, except Blue Cheese. I’m not fond of that. Blah!
I think that cheese get a bad reputation as being “bad” for you. As with anything else, too much of anything is bad for you. Cheese is perfectly fine in moderation.
One of my favorite snacks (and my kid’s too) is a POLLY-O or Kraft string cheese (we refer to them as cheese sticks) and an apple. It’s satisfying and delicious. Plus the POLLY-O/Kraft cheeses comes in different flavors so you can mix it up a bit. Cheese goes good with other fruits as well as fresh veggies.
Me and my kids enjoy POLLY-O/Kraft cheeses straight from the package, but we also enjoy it in other ways too. One of my personal favorite ways to enjoy them is with tomato soup. I whip up a bowl of tomato soup and then slice up POLLY-O/Kraft cheese stick up into slices and put them on top of the soup. Then I sprinkle a little Basil or Oregano on top (depending on what I have on hand). My kids affectionately refer to this as “Pizza Soup” because it reminds them of pizza. Personally I love how the cheese and tomato soup taste together. They were made for each other.
Another thing we do with the POLLY-O/Kraft cheese is to cut it in half, length wise, and put it on a bun next to a hot dog. You wouldn’t think that hot dogs and mozzarella would taste great together, but they do!
You can even cut them up and use them as toppings on crackers. My son like to do that with Oyster crackers (mini saltine type crackers). Even better when paired with a slice of pepperoni.
They are great for “on the go” because they are individually packaged. I also used to send them to school with my kids for their snack time. Now that they are older I simply toss one in their lunchboxes to go along with their lunch.
OH! Now I’m hungry! LOL!
Now that it’s back to school season I’m sure many parents are looking for ways to save a few dollars on school supplies. From July 15, 2012 until September 30, 2012, inside specially marked packages of POLLY-O/Kraft string (Regular Mozzarella, Mozzarella made with 2% milk, Twist and Twist made with 2% milk) you will find a coupon for $3.00 off your next purchase of $10.00 of Crayola products.
Crayola makes so much more than just crayons (although they are our favorite). They make paint, markers, chalk, dry erase markers, colored bubbles, clay, colored pencils and so much more. My kids are 12 and 15 and they still use Crayola products. Even at 44 my husband LOVES Crayola crayons. My husband and I actually like to color. We find it very relaxing. My husband has his own box of Crayola crayons that no one (except me) is allowed to touch. He likes to keep his crayons in one piece and the paper in tact where as my kids break them, peel off the paper and widdle them down until thy are nubs.
I keep a supply of crayons, colored pencils and markers on hand. That way the kids have them readily available for school projects, homework or if they just feel like coloring or doodling. They also come in handy when company stops by with young children.
I picked up one of the specially marked packages of POLLY-O cheese. For the promotion they turned the cheese wrappers into crayons. How cute!
