I am not a baker. I can’t bake to save my life for the most part. I also do a horrible job when it comes to decorating baked goods. When it comes to stuff like that I leave it up to my husband. He does a great job baking, frosting and decorating goodies.
Recently I received some super cool ParaNorman cupcake cups and toppers in honor of the movie’s release this Friday (August 17, 2012). Normally I would ask my husband to bake, frost and decorate for me, but this time I opted to do it myself. I figured since ParaNorman is about ghost, ghouls and other creepy monsters it would only add to the creepiness if my cupcakes were less than perfect.
To my surprise the cupcakes turned out perfect. Not only that I was able to do a decent job with the frosting too. The one time it would have been perfectly OK if my cupcakes were a bit “off” and they turn out perfect. LOL! The next time I make cupcakes I bet they turn out all lopsided.
I received these cute little ParaNorman characters on toothpicks to put on top of the cupcakes. I also received these really cool edible cupcake toppers with images of the ParaNorman characters on them.
There were also cupcake “cups” but I forgot about them when it came time to pour te batter into the cupcake pan. I used cupcake cups that I already had. I’ll save the ParaNorman ones for the next time I bake cupcakes.
Check out my baking skills. I’m pretty sure Buddy (aka “Cake Boss”) has nothing to worry about.
I think I used too much frosting for the edible cupcake toppers. They didn’t lie flat. I also wish I had some piping gel (green) to make some grass on top of the cupcakes to make it look like they were standing on the ground.
I used Confetti Vanilla cake and Chocolate Marshmallow frosting. Not only did they look pretty good they tasted pretty good too.
I have a ParaNorman cookie cutter, but I haven’t used it yet. I just mastered cupcakes. I think I need to work on perfecting cookies another day.
Check out these beautifully decorated ParaNorman cupcake by Chef Annette Starbuck. One day I would love to be able to decorate cupcakes like this.
If you haven’t seen the commercials for ParaNorman yet, here is the movie’s synopsis.
The new 3D stop-motion comedy thriller from animation company LAIKA, reteams the company with Focus Features after the groundbreaking Academy Award-nominated “Coraline.” “ParaNorman” is, following “Coraline,” the company’s second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D. In “ParaNorman,” a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
Check out the movie’s trailer. It looks really good and I hope my family and I have the opportunity to see it in theaters since it’s in 3D. If not I know we’ll buy the movie when it’s available on Blu-ray.

The below photo looks like Norman is dreaming of cupcakes. Ha Ha.
