I am not sure if many people are aware of this but the classic story of Les Miserables is coming to the big screen this Christmas.
Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award®-winning director, Tom Hooper, the film features an all-star cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen. In December 2012, the world’s longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in Tom Hooper’s sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale. With international superstars and beloved songs—including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More” and “On My Own”—Les Misérables, the show of shows, is now reborn as the cinematic musical experience of a lifetime.
Les Misérables is the motion-picture adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

I have seen a few pictures from the film, but that is about it.
I just watched an extended behind-the-scenes look at the movie. I was surprised to learn that all of the songs you’ll hear in the film were recorded LIVE as the actors were acting. Normally in musicals the soundtrack is recorded months before the acting even begins. Then the actors just have to lip sync to their own song. With this movie the songs are recorded the same time the actors are acting out the scene.
The actors can hear a piano play their song so that they can sing to it. Later on the piano will be replaced with an orchestra.
I didn’t know that Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried could sing. They have beautiful voices too. Anne’s voice is especially haunting in the song she sings in the extended clip.
Check it out (below). If you are reading this via e-mail you can find the clip here,

I read in EW that they sung live. Thanks for the clip. I really, really want to see this movie. Have you seen the 10′th Anniversary Edition of the play? They had the 25th a while back which was good. But the 10th is the most beloved?
