About a year ago I was out in LA on a press trip for Disney. I arrived in LA early enough to give me some time to check out the area. A couple of blogger friends went to the Universal City Walk for lunch and to walk around. Universal City Walk is like an outdoor mall.
There were the usual types of stores and places to eat. One store especially got my blogger buddies excited. It was a store called Lush. I never heard of it before.
When I walked into the Lush store with my friends I was greeted by a smiling employee and some amazing smells. There were lotions, creams, bath bombs, make up and so much more all over the place. It was total “eye candy” for someone who enjoys bath and body products.
Not only were there a lot of products but they were colorful and smelled A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Here is a brief description of Lush…
Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics offers selections of eco-friendly skin care, hair care, bath and body treats and gifts loaded with natural ingredients. A self-appointed cosmetic-deli, LUSH makes effective products using organic fruits and vegetables, the finest essential oils and ingredients that are ethically and sustainably procured from around the world.
I could have easily spent every dime I had in that store. I didn’t buy anything while I was there, and I’m kicking myself for it now. I had planned on picking up a few things but I figured I could have gone back to the store before I left for my flight back to NY. Sadly it never worked out and I didn’t have the time to return to the store.
I’m going back to LA next weekend but there are no Lush stores local to where I’ll be. There are also no Lush stores near where I live either. THANKFULLY I can order Lush products online.
Although nothing beats the “in-store experience”. It’s a great way to test out the products and enjoy all the lovely scents.
Since my first Lush experience I have heard other bloggers talk about Lush products and how in love with them they are. I was sad that I never had a chance to experience Lush (this was before I knew they had a website).
One day I received a pitch to try out Lush products. Oh my goodness – YESSSSSS!!!!!!! Of course I wanted to try some Lush products.
I received the following products to try out.
Breath of Fresh Air Facial Toner ($8.95 for 3.3oz/$19.95 for 8.4oz) – I LOVE this product! I use it every day. It’s “da bomb!”. Breath of Fresh Air Facial Toner is like ocean spray in a bottle. It contains fresh seawater from the Pacific Ocean, seaweed (Carrageen), rose absolute, aloe vera and essential vitamins and minerals. To use you simply mist it on your clean face. You can also spray it on a cotton ball to wipe away dirt from your face too.
What I love about this product is that when you close your eyes and mist it on your face it fells – AND SMELLS – like you are at the ocean and the gentle ocean breeze is kicking up some ocean water and misting it on your face. It smells just like the ocean too! This is a great “fix” for those of you totally obsessed with spending every waking moment of the summer at the beach.
I was a bit concerned that the salt component would dry out my skin. That is not the case at all. If anything my skin feels wonderful. Plus it’s refreshing.
I have to admit that I sometimes use this spray for no other reason other than the smell of it and the cooling sensation you get when you mist it on your face. I just close my eyes, mist and automatically I’m taken away (mentally) to the beach. I ♥ the scent!
Dirty Springwash Shower Gel ($9.95 for 3.3oz/$17.95 for 8.8oz/$27.95 for 16.9oz) – You’ve got to love the names that Lush comes up with for their products. Noooooooo!!!!! This is NOT made with dirty spring water.
This is a lovely shower gel that smells like spearmint and menthol (very minty). It’s the perfect shower gel to wake yourself up in the morning. The scent is refreshing and energizing. Not to mention it’s an awesome blue color.
A little bit goes along way too. Some shower gels you have to pile on to reap any benefit. With Dirty Springwash Shower Gel a little goes a long way. You just need a squirt on your loofah to get yourself totally clean. It washes great and rinses off perfectly. There is no sticky residue left on your skin.
The only downside is that the scent doesn’t last that long after you are out of the shower. But that is OK. It does it’s job perfectly while in the shower.
Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub ($19.95 for 4.2oz/$34.95 for 8.8oz) - I’m a HUGe fan of body scrubs. I love how they feel. When I use a body scrub I feel like my face and/or body are as clean as they can possibly be.
What I liked about the Ocean Salt Face & Body Scrub when I first opened the jar is that you can clearly see that it was fresh and handmade. It had blue/green and white swirls throughout. It’s hand mixed and like anything handmade it’s going to vary each time it’s made. One batch might have more or less swirls and colors then another. I know it sounds odd but I like that it wasn’t mixed perfectly. For me that is proof positive that it was lovingly made by hand and not in an industrial machine.
My jar was made by Madu. Thank you Madu! It was made fresh on August 10th and will stay fresh until October 13th. Ha! It won’t even last that long. I’m pretty much done with it.
There is a perfect mixture of sea salt and lotion in this body scrub. It not only smells refreshing but it also makes your skin feel refreshed too. Just like the body wash this ocean salt scrub leaves your body and senses feeling energized.
I mostly used this on my body but I did try it on my face. I just felt like it was a little too rough (course) for my sensitive skin. As a body scrub you can’t get any better than this.
The coolest product ever award goes to Lush’s Seanik Shampoo for shine and body.
I knew Lush was sending me shampoo. I was thinking “bottle of shampoo”. When my package arrived I found all the products mentioned above. I also found a small, round metal tin and a round soap looking thing with seaweed embedded into it. I went to the Lush website and looked up Seanik shampoo. To my surprise the round soap looking thing was the shampoo. How in the world is this itty bitty bar of “soap” going to lather and clean my thick, course, long hair?
WOW! You have no idea just how great this SHAMPOO works.
To use simply wet your hair and rub the bar on it (just a little) then lather up with your hands. Or you can rub the shampoo bar in between your hands, then stroke your hands over your hair and wash/rinse like you normally do.
This bar of shampoo is going to last FOREVER! I have a family of four and we’ve all been using it and you can barely tell that it’s been used. I would have thought the whole bar would have been used up by now. After numerous uses the bar looks almost as good as the day I received it.
The shampoo is made with two different types of seaweed and it also includes sea salt. I thought the salt would dry out my hair. It hasn’t. In fact it leaves my hair feeling incredibly clean and soft. I’m not sure about adding volume. My hair already has plenty of that. But as far as being clean, soft and shiny, I’m giving Seanik shampoo two thumbs up.
Not only is it a great shampoo it also smells out-of-this-world wonderful. According to the Lush site the Seanik shampoo is made with exotic fragrance such as mimosa, orange blossom absolute and jasmine. I can certainly smell the jasmine. It does have a tropical floral scent to it. It’s a delicate scent too. It’s not too strong.
I have to use a conditioner in my hair afterwards so I don’t know if the scent lasts on your hair or not. I’m going to have to look into Lush conditioners too.
The metal tin that came with the products is used to store your shampoo in. It fits in there perfectly.
Another cool feature about all Lush products is that most of them have little stickers on them that tell you the name and ID of the person who made the products for you BY HAND, as well as packaged them. They even have an expiration date on them so you know how long they are considered fresh.
A special thank you to Reggie B1, Frank B2 and Madu B3 for making my Lush products. ♥
Now I see what all my blogger friends are raving about when they talk about their love of Lush. I am now on the fan bandwagon too! I LOVE LUSH!!!!! And I’ve only tried four products! I can’t wait to try even more Lush bath and body products.
If they ever open up a store near me we’re going to be in the poor house for sure!

Dirty Springwash Shower Gel and the Seanik Shampoo sound marvelous. I love using natural products and Lush has taken it further by having the products made by hand. I have to check and see if there is a Lush store close to me. I will be like you and go broke if there is store near me:)
