Cinderella Diamond Edition on Blu-ray/DVD combo available October 2, 2012

One of my most favorite Disney movies is now available on Blu-ray/DVD – Cinderella! I cannot even begin to tell you how thrilled I was to learn of it’s release (October 2, 2012). I was fortunate to get an advanced copy to review. I was so excited about it that I watched it with my family the very same night I received it.

Cinderella on Blu-ray is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

I was actually reluctant to spend money on a Blu-ray player when they first came out. I figured my DVDs were just as good. That is until I saw just how crisp and sharp the images were. Now that we have a Blu-ray player I am always amazed at how much better movies look on it. Cinderella is no exception.

I am pretty sure most people know the story of Cinderella. It’s also safe to assume that many people have seen the Disney classic, possibly dozens of times (especially if you have a daughter or granddaughter who is into princesses).

Cinderella is the story of a young girl whose parents passed away and she is left in the care of her wicked stepmother and horrible stepsisters. They treat Cinderella poorly and she is forced to be their maid. Cinderella is all alone except for a few critters which are her only friends.

One day Cinderella learns that the King is holding a ball for his son, the Prince, in hopes he would find a young lady to marry. All the single young ladies in the kingdom are invited – except Cinderella. Her stepmother wants to ensure that one of her daughter’s marries the prince. She also doesn’t feel that Cinderella is worthy enough to attend. After all, she is just a lowly maid.

Cinderella dreams of meeting the prince and attending the grand ball. Upon hearing if her wishes her fairy godmother appears. She agrees to grand Cinderella her wish to attend the ball, but there is one catch. She needs to return home by the stroke of midnight. Cinderella agrees and her fairy godmother grants her wish, as well as gives Cinderella a beautiful ball gown, glass slippers and a carriage made out of a pumpkin.

Cinderella attends the ball and has a night she’ll never forget. She met the prince and they were instantly smitten with each other. The prince wanted to get to know her better but she had to leave abruptly because the clock was able to strike midnight. While she was racing out the door she accidentally left one of her glass slippers.

Armed with only a single slipper the prince sets out to try it on every young lady in the kingdom in hopes of locating the mysterious young lady he met at the ball.

Will the prince ever find Cinderella? I’m sure you already know the answer. If not you should pick up a copy of Cinderella Diamond Edition on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, available on October 2, 2012.

The Cinderella Diamond Edition will be avaiable in several different packages.

- A collector’s 6-disc Jewelry Box Set which includes Cinderella, Cindereall 2: Dreams Come True and Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time on both Blu-ray and DVD.

- 3 Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray, DVD and Digital copy)

- 2 Disc Combo Pack (Blu-ray & DVD)

- High Definition Disney Digital

I have the 2 Disc Combo Pack (Blu-ray & DVD). You must check out the bonus features. The Blu-ray offers an alternate opening sequence which is lovely. It also features the animated short film Tangled Ever After. Its the same short film that appeared in theaters before Beauty and the Beast 3D. If you loved the movie Tangled like I do then you’ll certainly want to see Tangled Ever After which features the wedding of Rapunzel and Flynn.

This Blu-ray features Disney’s Second Screen. If you have never experienced Second Screen before you are missing out on a lot of fun and interesting “extras”.

There is a short clip about the new Disney Princess Fantasyland that will be opening this fall. It looks wonderful! I can’t wait to experience it for myself.

One of my favorite bonus features (aside from deleted scenes) is a featurette called The Real Fairy Godmother. It talks about the inspiration behind the fairy godmother in the movie. I am always fascinated by how filmmakers come up with their ideas and inspiration. This is a delightful behind the scenes view into how that adorable fairy godmother came to be.

I can’t rave enough about this film. It’s one of my favorite Disney movies. I love the story, characters (especially the mice), the songs, the animation… I love it all!
