Disney’s Secret of the Wings Review & Giveaway (ends 10/26/12)

On October 23, 2012 Disney’s will release on Blu-ray/DVD and Digital Download the newest addition to the Tinker Bell movie franchise called Secret of the Wings.

I have always been a fan of Tinker Bell. Ever since I was a little girl and saw her in the movie Peter Pan. Years ago when I learned that Disney made a Tinker Bell movie that featured an updated version of the beloved character I was not very happy about it. After all, how could they improve upon such a delightful character. I was reluctant to watch the movie. To my surprise I loved the new Tinker Bell. Dare I say I even like her more than the original?

I am now a fan of the Tinker Bell movies. In fact we own two of the three movies (Tinker Bell and Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue). I need to pick up the missing film one of these days (Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure).

I love all the Tinker Bell movies but I must say that the newest addition, Secret of the Wings is by far my favorite. The animation alone is enough to take your breath away.

I was fortunate to see the film in 3D at Toon Disney Studios. Incidentally we met THE John Lasseter while we were there too. That was a wonderful surprise. The film is also available in 3D, but only for home viewing. This film is not going to be in theaters here in the US.

Secret of the Wings follows Tinker Bell and her fairy friends as they help the fairies of the Winter Woods prepare for the upcoming season. Tinker Bell and her friends help to make baskets that are picked up and dropped off at the Winter Woods by Snow Owls. Tinker Bell, who has always been a curious soul, dreams of visiting the Winter Woods. Sadly it’s strictly forbidden. No one is allowed into the Winter Woods except the fairies that live there. Winter Wood fairies are also not allowed to cross over.

Tinker Bell is not one to listen to what people tell her. So one day when she was helping some animals cross over into the Winter Woods, she decided to step over the boundary to see what would happen. Within minutes Tinker Bell started to get very cold and her wings started to light up in a magic way. Before she could go any further into the woods she was retrieved and brought back into her own world.

Tinker Bell could not get over how her wings lit up and sought to find the answers. She learned that the only person who could tell her is “The Keeper”, and he resides in the Winter Woods.

Determined to find the answers to all her questions Tinker Bell creates a warm outfit for herself and hitches a ride in one of the baskets the Snow Owls brought back to the Winter Woods.

Miraculously Tinker Bell was able to locate The Keeper without anyone seeing her. While she was hiding inside The Keeper’s castle another fairy showed up. The fairy was anxious to find out from The Keeper why her wings were magically lighting up – just like Tinker Bell’s.

Tinker Bell soon makes her present known. To his surprise The Keeper knew exactly why their wings lit up – it’s because they were sisters. Twin sisters to be exact. Both born from the same baby’s laugh.

Now that they found the sister they never knew they had, Tinker Bell and her sister, Periwinkle, now much find a way where they can be together. Tinker Bell cannot survive in the Winter Woods, and Periwinkle is unable to stay with Tinker Bell in her world. They tried their best but nothing worked. They were also forbidden from crossing over into each other’s world by Queen Clarion and Lord Milori. The Queen and the Lord also had a secret they were keeping from all of the fairies.

Will Tinker Bell and Periwinkle ever get to be with each other? What is the secret that Queen Clarion and Lord Milori have that changes everything? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Secret of the Wings, available on October 23, 2012 where ever movies are sold.

Here is the movie’s trailer. For those of you reading this via e-mail you can find the trailer here, http://bit.ly/Xxx685.

I loved this movie! I love the animation. I love the story. I love the music. I loved it all! It’s a fabulous film that the whole family will enjoy. I wouldn’t say it’s an overly “girly” movie since there are male characters. I think boys will enjoy this movie too. My husband did. He’s such a big kid at heart. He was also reluctant to watch movies with the newer Tinker Bell but he enjoyed her character too.

I have the the 4 Disc Combo Pack that features the movie on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy and Blu-ray 3D. I don’t have a 3D TV (I wish I did) but I do have a Blu-ray player that also plays DVDs.

The copy I have also have a large 3D image of Tinker Bell and her beautiful wings. The 3D effect is so realistic. I feel like I can reach out and grab Tinker Bell’s wings.

I wanted a copy to review so I could share it with my family as well as to check out the bonus features. The bonus features include a music video for the song “Great Divide” by the McCain Sisters (lovely song!). The song is very appropriate because there is a great divide that kept Tinker Bell and her sister apart. There is another music video for the song “Dig Down Deeper”, performed by Zendaya.

Another bonus feature is the special Pixie Hollow Games. This special originally aired on TV. Think of it as Fairy Olympics. :-) It was cute but a bit different then the Tinker Bell movies. This short didn’t focus much on Tink as it did the other fairies.

Lastly there is a one minute (give or take) clip called Fright Light which is really cute. :-)

For more information about the movie, plus other fun goodies, visit www.Disney.Go.com/Fairies. You can also check out the Disney Fairies on Facebook, or Tinker Bell’s Facebook page.
