Miele S2 Olympus Vacuum Cleaner from Vacuum-Direct.com

Living in a home with five cats and a dog means that I have to clean on a daily basis, and I’m NOT one who enjoys cleaning. In fact I hate it. I love having a sparkling clean home, I just really dislike all the work I have to do to get it that way and keep it that way.

There are two things I have to do on a daily basis – dust and vacuum. Dusting is quick and easy. I usually do a quick dusting every day and then a more throughout dusting 1-2 times a week.

I have to vacuum because I need to get up all the pet hair and dander, not to mention the kitty litter that seems to get everywhere. I find kitty litter grains in the bedroom carpet and the litter box is no where near the bedroom. Ugh!

We have a really nice vacuum that does a great job, but it’s big and bulky. For throughout vacuuming I don’t mind it but for the day-to-day stuff the vacuum is just too heavy and inconvenient to use. I need something that has the same cleaning power, but lighter and easier to tote around.

Vacuum-Direct.com sent me a Miele S2 Olympus vacuum to try out and review. I knew right away I was going to like this little vacuum.

Vacuum-Direct.com sells not only Miele vacuums but also ball vacuums.

The Miele Olympus vacuum is light weight and easy to tote around which makes it an ideal vacuum for daily cleanings. I like that it’s small enough to fit in our already stuffed closet (we seriously can’t squeezing anything more in the closet!). The long hose is a bit of a challenge to fit but for most people it shouldn’t be an issue (our closet it just too packed).

This is the type of vacuum that you pull around behind you but it’s so light weight that you can easily pick it up and take it from room to room too. I honestly think 3 of my 5 cats weigh MORE then this vacuum. It must weigh under 15 pounds.

The Miele S2 Olympus comes with a hose that can stretch out to reach even the highest spot in your home. I used it to help me vacuum cat hair off the curtains. I’m “vertically challenged” (short) so it was especially nice to have that extra reach to help me get to places I can’t normally reach. My other vacuum’s hose is not nearly as long.

The vacuum comes with accessories including tool to vacuum your upholstery, a brush and a crevice nozzle (which I find that I use all the time).

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to use this mighty little vacuum. There is an on/off power button, a button that makes the power cord rewind and a dial that lets you control the suction power. I found the dial to be an interesting feature. Most vacuums don’t give you an option for how much suction power you need/want.

I like that the hose is long and low which allows me to get underneath the couch and the bed without having to bend down too far. The hose is long enough where I can actually vacuum behind the couch too. That is one of those hard to reach places that I don’t get to vacuum often because I simply cannot reach it. I have to wait for my husband to come home and move the couch out for me.

The vacuum works great on our laminate flooring and the carpet in the living room which is a low pile. I have noticed that in the bedroom where the carpet is more plush it doesn’t seem to have the same power/pick up. It still finds those annoying grains of litter, but it just doesn’t seem to have the same power as it does when I vacuum the flooring or the low pile carpet in the living room.

Another feature I really like about this powerful little vacuum is that when you are done you just have to press a button and the cord winds up into the vacuum. That is one thing I dislike about my upright vacuum. You have to manually wind the cord around and around yourself.

The Miele S2 Olympus does require vacuum bags. That is the only other downside. I personally don’t mind but I know my husband was not keen on that. We had another vacuum years ago that needed bags and they were impossible to find. These days with the Internet I think it’s a lot easier to find the bags you need.

Here is some more details about the Miele S2 Olympus that I didn’t touch upon with this review.

Overall I am very pleased with this vacuum. It’s my go-to vacuum for day to day cleaning. It’s lightweight, easy to move from room to room and has awesome suction power.

The Miele S2 Olymups retails for around $299.99.
