I have a hard time going to the stores these days. Every where I look I see boxes of chocolates and Easter candies. I ♥ chocolate and I find jelly beans hard to resist too. Mmm… just thinking about chocolate makes me wish I had some right now.
Heart shaped boxes of chocolates are a common Valentine’s Day gift. Who doesn’t love to receive a box of ooey, gooey, melt-in-your-mouth goodness? Even better if it’s made with nuts and/or dark chocolates. Boxes of chocolate are a heavenly treat – but it doesn’t help you much if you are trying to make better-for-you decisions on what you eat and put in your body. After all, chocolates are mostly sugar and fat and not exactly good for you.
If the mere thought of receiving a box of chocolates makes you drool, or if you are like me and have a weakness for chocolate, I have a better-for-you solution – Balance Bars!
Balance Bars are a great snack/treat for on-the-go women who would like indulge in healthy nutrition but still enjoy the finer things in life like a chocolate bar.
Don’t get me wrong, Balance Bar are NOT candy bars, but they look like candy bars and taste just as “sinful”.
If you are not familiar with Balance Bars here is a little background information for you;
Founded in 1992, Balance Bar, one of America’s original nutrition/energy bars, inspires consumers to lead active, well-rounded and balanced lives by providing great-tasting, healthy and convenient nutrition for lasting energy. Balance Bars come in six unique product lines (Original, Gold, BARE, Café, nimble and CarbWell) and are available in 22 flavors with all based on a 40/30/30 nutritional model (40% of calories come from healthy carbohydrates, 30% from quality protein and 30% from dietary fat).
I have had the opportunity to try out a couple of Balance Bars for myself. The Chocolate Mint Cookie Crunch is SO GOOD! It’s hard to believe that it’s a better-for-you snack option. You would never guess it. It’s the perfect balance of chocolate and mint with just the right amount of crunch to satisfy any chocolate or snack craving.
My daughter loves the Chocolate Raspberry bars. Personally I wasn’t overly fond of that flavor, but my daughter loves it.
Balance Bars come in a variety of flavors.
- Caramel Nut Blast is a blend of creamy caramel and crunchy peanuts coated in rich chocolate.
- Chocolate Craze blends a smooth chocolate core with chocolate chips and a chocolate coating.
- Chocolate Mint Cookie Crunch combines a crunchy cookie base with cool mint.
- Chocolate Peanut Butter unites two popular and irresistible ingredients, chocolate and peanut butter.
- Cookie Dough provides the rich flavor of chocolate chip and cookie dough.
- Double Chocolate Brownie has a rich chocolate brownie protein center topped with a drizzle of chocolaty goodness.
- S’mores is a crisp layer of graham cracker topped with a light marshmallow filling and coated with milk chocolate.
- Triple Chocolate Chaos has a protein-packed chocolate center topped with chocolate fudge coated in milk chocolate.
Each 1.76 oz. single-serve Balance Bar mentioned above has least 14 grams of protein and 23 vitamins and minerals. They are also an excellent source of antioxidants and vitamin D, all for around 200 calories. Try getting that from a regular piece of chocolate.
Balance Bar was offering a nice “Balance-tine” Day Chocolate Gift Assortment online at www.Balance.com, however I don’t see it available anymore. I know it was while supplies lasted so it’s possible they sold out. But that is OK. You can create your own “Balance-tine” Day gift set. Simply stop by your nearest Dollar Store and pick up a nice heart shaped tin or box. Next fill it with either tissue paper or a colorful filler. Then you can place an assortment of Balance Bars inside. You can find Balance Bars at many retail locations across the country. And with 22 flavors I’m sure you can find several that will appeal to that special someone.
This would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for someone who is watching what they eat or trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Its the gift you can feel good about giving.
