Behind every great love is a great story…
Think about some of the greatest, most romantic, love stories of all time? What ones come to mind? I’m sure Romeo & Juliet top most people’s lists. I’m also sure that Noah & Allie are also on many lists. Noah and Allie are from the movie The Notebook which is probably one of the most depressing love stories of all time. Even men cry when they watch the movie!
The Notebook is based on a Nicholas Sparks book by the same name. Nicholas Sparks also brought us other romantic tear jerkers – Message in a Bottle, The Last Song, Dear John, The Lucky One, Nights in Rodanthe and a movie I find just as depressing as The Notebook, A Walk to Remember. Currently the film Safe Haven (based on another Nicholas Sparks book) is set to be released this coming Valentines Day. It stars Josh Dummel and Julianne Hough,
If you have not seen The Notebook yet here is a brief synopsis of the film.
As teenagers, Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling) begin a whirlwind courtship that soon blossoms into tender intimacy. The young couple is quickly separated by Allies upper-class parents who insist that Noah isn’t right for her. Several years pass, and when they meet again, their passion is rekindled, forcing Allie to choose between her soulmate and class order. This beautiful tale has a particularly special meaning to an older gentleman (James Garner) who regularly reads the timeless love story to his aging companion (Gena Rowlands).
The Notebook is at once heartwarming and heartbreaking and will capture you in its sweeping and emotional force.
The story it’s self is beautiful. From the very moment Noah and Allie meet you root for them and you want them to be together forever. As you know, sometimes life has different plans for us. It’s the ending of the movie that makes everyone cry. I won’t tell you what the ending is just in case you have not seen the movie yet. Let’s just say you’ll need at the very least a whole box of tissues.
This April The Notebook will be released as The Notebook: Ultimate Collector’s Edition. This would make a wonderful gift for your special someone. Even if your sweetheart has not seen the film, this would make a great gift. Pair this collector’s edition with dinner and some flowers or chocolates and you are all set. Ladies, you can buy this set for yourself and make your sweetie pie watch the movie with you at home while snugged up in a cozy blanket and enjoying chocolate dipped strawberries or other delectable treats.
The Notebook: Ultimate Collector’s Edition comes with…
- The film on Blu-ray and DVD (with a Digital Download code too).
- A vintage style journal with photos, quotes and drawings from the film.
- A set of Valentines Day (or any time) postcards with images from the film (some have film quotes on them too).
The set even comes with a lovely heart locket necklace. The heart opens up. You can put your beloved’s photo inside. It’s really pretty.
I love flipping through the notebook and reading quotes from the film. They picked out some great quotes to feature not only in the notebook but also on the postcards.
The Blu-ray comes with special bonus features including some interesting deleted scenes that I have never seen before.
There are four featurettes that if you must see if you are a fan of the film. I especially liked the one called Southern Exposure: Locating the Notebook. The house that Noah built was actually made to look like it was falling apart, then it was brought back to it’s original form.
I also liked the featurette Casting Rachel and Ryan which shows some of the footag from when Rachel McAdams auditioned for the part.
Other featurettes include All in the Family: Nick Cassavetes and Nicholas Sparks: A Simple Story, Well Told. If you have never seen what Nicholas Sparks is you will in this featurette. He doesn’t look anything like I pictured he would. He’s a very down to Earth guy.
In addition the bonus features also include the movie trailer, commentaries and Rachel McAdams screen test.
Look for The Notebook: The Ultimate Collector’s Edition on sale soon where ever movies are sold. It’s being released by Warner Brothers Home Entertainment.
Keep an eye out for a giveaway for this same collector’s set that I’ll be hosting.
For your viewing pleasure here are a few clips from the film.
