Puppet Monsters Review & Giveaway (ends 3/14/13)

Puppet Monsters As Seen on TV

My kids are on Spring Break this week, as are many children across the country. When my kids were little I was constantly being bombarded with my kids whining “Mom… I’m bored. What can I do?”. Back then I had plenty of crafts on hand, movies, books and other things to entertain them. Now that they are teenagers they have come complacent in just sitting around texting or chatting with friends on the computer. Ugh! I wish they were little again. At least I was able to spark their imaginations and creativity.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that children need to be children. I think imaginative play is very important. Growing up I was never home. From sunrise to sunset I was outside finding things to play with. I would built forts out of branches, hunt for animal bones (my home was where an old farm used to be), swim in the creek and catch Tadpoles. I was the kind of kid that could come up with something fun to play with just by handing me an assortment of of things. Give me an old box and some crayons and I’d built a rocket ship that I would play with for days.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has done numerous studies that show how excessive media use can lead to attention problems, school difficulties, sleep and eating disorders, and childhood obesity. Childhood obesity, as you know, is a huge problem in our country.

There is a new toy on the market that helps spark a child’s creativity and imagination and can take them away from “screen time”. They are called Puppet Monsters.

I was sent a free sample to review. There was also no compensation involved.

Puppet Monster Toy

Puppet Monsters is a wearable stuffed toy. Children can wear the Puppet Monster on their head like a hat. The monster also comes with arms and hands that your child can move simply by inserting their finger into the little pockets on the puppets hands.

Puppet Monsters have interchangeable parts including the eyes, ears, noses and horns. There are different accessory kits available that can be mixed and matched with one another. The parts fasten on the inside of the monster so that they don’t fall off. There are literally dozens of different looks you can create. Best of all you can store the parts inside the monster for safe keeping.

There is a brief video on the Puppet Monsters website that shows you the Puppet Monsters in action. You can find the video at www.BuyPuppetMonsters.com.

Puppet Monsters retail for $19.95, plus $6.95 shipping and handling. Currently the site is offering a free accessory kit of your choice with the purchase of your Puppet Monster. I believe there is an additional $6.95 processing fee for the accessory kit too.

Puppet Monsters

Puppet Monsters are available in different styles;

  • Silly Dragon
  • Dizzy Antlers
  • Big Beak
  • Twinkley Eyes
  • Jumbo Eyes
  • Mr. Mustache

The Puppet Monster is made very well and can take a lot of wear and tear (or should I say a lot of playtime).

I had puppets when I was a child. My great-grandmother actually crocheted me some hand puppets. I also made plenty of puppets out of old socks. I had fun putting on shows for my family with the puppets I created. Not only do they spark the imagination I also feel like they help children to come out of their shells. I was always a shy person, however when I would use my puppets I would become my puppets and I was able to act things out – and even sing! – with no hesitation. That is because it wasn’t ME who was doing the talking and singing but rather the puppet.

If you are interested in making a purchase I have a $5.00 off discount code for you to use. Simply enter the code PUPPET when checking out.

I think Puppet Monsters are a great idea. I especially love how you can mix and match pieces to create dozens of different monster “friends”.
