As a mom I have spent A LOT of time in the car with my kids. In fact my husband and I were in the car pretty much all day today with my teenagers as we went from store to shore picking up some warmer weather clothes (shorts, t-shirts…). Now that my kids are older we’re lucky if we can get either one of them to engage in conversation with us. Usually they have their earphones on and are busy texting their friends. Sigh…
I miss my kids being children. It was much for fun going on road trips with them. Sure, they would get bored on long trips (most kids do) but we always tried to do fun things together to pass the time away.
One of the fun things we would do is sing songs like Wheels on the Bus, Old McDonald, B-I-N-G-O and If You’re Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands. If I tried to get my kids to sing along to those songs now I think they would think I was crazy.
Another fun thing we used to do was play games. One of our favorite was “I Spy”. Or I would call out an object you might find on a road trip (such as an animal, blue Volkswagen, out of state license plate, red barn…) and the first person to find it would shout out that they saw it.
My kids also liked to play “Punch Buggy” where they would shout out the color of a VW Bug they saw and punch the other person in the arm. I used to play that when I was younger with my cousins. I’d love to know who invented that game. LOL!
To help keep my kids amused I used to keep a small box in the backseat with non-perishable snacks, travel games, sketch pads, crayons & pencils and small toys. I would try and mix up the contents of the box every few weeks so that the kids had something different to entertain themselves with. It helped to break up the boredom of long trips.
How do you spend “car time” with your children or grandchildren?
Cooper Tire and Scholastic have teamed up to try and uncover mom’s favorite time in the car with her children. Every mom who participates by taking the brief “Miles with Mom” survey will be entered to win a Daily Drive Toolkit. The Daily Drive Toolkit is packed with $500 in Scholastic books, a $500 gas gift card and brand new Cooper tires. This is an AWESOME prize package! I think this would be ideal for summer road trips. Cooper Tires are crafted for life’s road trips because they are made for people, not just their cars.
Cooper Tire was founded in 1914 and is the fourth largest tire manufacturer in the country. They make tires for just about every type of vehicle including sedans, SUVs and light weight trucks. They also make Winter tires which are a must have when you live in the Northeast.
Did you know that women purchase the majority of new tires? I never knew that. I figured buying tires was a “man thing”. I know nothing about tires and wouldn’t even know what kind to get (tire size, type and load capacity…). The only thing I know about tires is that they need to be properly inflated.
Cooper Tires have created a web page that helps to educate consumers about Tire Safety. I actually learned some interesting things from the website. I would recommend you take a few moments to check the site out. You can find it here, http://US.CooperTire.com/Tire-Safety/Tire-Safety-Tips.aspx.
If you would like to take the Miles for Mom survey to be entered to win that amazing prize package visit www.Scholastic.com/MilesWithMom.
