Have any of these scenarios ever happened to you?
- Your computer crashes (aka “blue screen of death”)?
- You child/grandchild accidently deletes an important file?
- Your computer gets hit with a deadly virus?
I can honestly say that all three have happened to me (I’ve even accidently deleted files). It happens. It’s part of life. That is why it’s wise for you to back up your computer on a regular basis. Some people do that with an external hard drive (they can crash too – I found that out the hard way), flash drive or burn important information on to a disc.
As a blogger I need to make sure I keep all my spreadsheets and files up-to-date. My spreadsheets are especially important because that is where I keep all my Public Relations and company contacts, details on review/giveaways/posts, giveaway winners, and future posts that I need to work on.
A couple of years ago I accidently deleted my spreadsheet. I was totally lost without it! I had no clue what posts were due, how to reach my contacts to send winner’s their prizes and other VERY important information. I felt totally lost without it. Thankfully there are a lot of very understanding people out there. I guess it’s because they have experienced the same thing.
As a mom I am always worried about losing precious photos and videos. We almost never make “hard copies” of photos anymore. They just sit on our computer. The only time we make a physical copy is if we make a photo book. As you know all it takes is one little virus or a disaster, like a fire, and all those memories are gone FOREVER.
My husband used to keep audio files on our children when they were toddlers. We HAD some adorable sound bites including my son telling my husband that he loved him and another one where he was telling my husband about some fire trucks that he saw that day. Those files are gone. POOF! One day they just disappeared. We never thought to back them up. Every time we think about it we get mad at ourselves, especially because my husband is a computer tech and he should have known better.
I’m also a busy mom. There are some days I don’t know if I’m coming or going. I’m lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast that morning let alone trying to remember if I backed up my files on my computer on to my external hard drive (external hard drives can die too!). That is why I am grateful for the service Norton Online Backup.
Norton sent me a free code to try out their online backup service. It was easy to set up. All I had to do was create a Norton account, apply the code, and follow the online installation instructions and Norton Online Backup was up and running. You can even set which files and folder you want to have backed up. Everything is accessible with the Norton Online Backup dashboard.
Norton Online Backup is from the makers of Norton Anti-Virus Software. Norton is a trusted company that has been protecting consumers for our 25 years.
Norton Online Backup is a service that automatically backs up your important files on your computer. You don’t even have to think about it. Just chose which files you want saved and let Norton Online Backup do the rest. Norton Online Backup will automatically import your important files on to one of their secured online data centers which are managed offsite. Your important and irreplaceable files are protected with high-level encryption, both during backup and while stored.
Here are some more important things that Norton Backup can do for you.
- Lets you quickly and easily restore your files—and your precious memories—in case of computer hard drive crashes, accidental deletion, theft of your computer, natural disasters, or other mishaps.
- Lets you retrieve your files, whenever you need them, from any computer connected to the Internet.
- Lets you transfer your secured backup files between both Macintosh and Windows computers, so you can easily copy your files to new computers.
- Automatically saves the previous versions of files backed up in the past 90 days, so you can restore older files if necessary. That means you can instantly restore accidentally deleted files
- Keyword Search lets you quickly locate the exact file or files you want to restore or transfer to your other computers.
- Gives you complete control—you can manage and restore your backed up files through a secured, password-protected Web page, so they’re always available when you need them.
- Works in the background, so it won’t interrupt you or get in your way.
- Automatically compresses files before backing them up for faster backups that use less storage space.
- Backs up only new files and files that have changed for faster backups.
- Keeps copies of your important files safe from loss
Best of all you can back up files from up to five computers, which means everyone in your home can be protected, not just one computer. That is great because my kids constantly delete homework assignments and projects by mistake on their computers. It’s good to know they won’t have to re-type everything, or do the research all over again.
Another bonus is that it’s affordable and a better option than buying and storing USB drive, flash drives, external hard drives and memory cards.
If you find that you or your family needs more storage you can easily add more secured storage space from your Norton Online Backup dashboard.
Norton Online Backup is a subscription based service (your membership is for one year). You also have the option to add more space should you find that you need more for a nominal fee.
If you are still not convinced that backing up your files is for you, you might want to take a moment and read about why you should back up your files on these two links, www.Backup.com/Why-Backup.html and www.Backup.com/Why-Norton-Online-Backup.html.
