Take a trip to an exotic land with Saffron Road frozen meals and snacks

Saffron Road Food

I often think that myself, and my family, are in a meal “rut”. We tend to eat the same things week after week. I’m not exaggerating when I say my husband takes either a barbecue chicken sandwich (deli sliced meat) or PB&J sandwich to work with him every sing day. Once in a while he’ll take leftovers from dinner the night before, but mostly it’s the same thing day after day. He’s also occasionally take a can of soup.

I work from home so I have access to the stove, oven and microwave, however I find that I eat the same things all the time too. What we need is something to “spice” up our meal time.

I was asked to try out a few products from a company called Saffron Road. I have never heard of the brand before. I received a couple of samples free to review (there was no compensation).

Saffron Road specializes in all-natural, halal packaged foods that are sold in major retail food stores across the United States. Products include an assortment of ethnic-inspired, easy-to-make frozen entrées, convenient hors d’oeuvres, single-serving simmer sauces, broths and savory snacks, a majority of which are also gluten-free.

The Saffron Road Chana Saag Frozen Entrée is the first frozen entrée in the USA to be non-GMO verified. This is especially interesting, especially considering Whole Foods Market’s recent announcement regarding its commitment to GMO transparency.

GMO’s are really scary. How our country, and other countries, can allow such things I’ll never know. Just think about what that is doing to our families.

I received the following products to review.

Chana Saag Frozen Entrée: Tender chickpeas simmered with ginger and Indian spices served with saag and cumin rice.

I can understand the appeal of this dish. While it doesn’t look appetizing, it does pack a punch when it comes to flavor. I found it a tad bit too spicy for my taste. It was good – just spicy.

Chicken Tikka Masala: Tender, boneless, all-natural white meat chicken traditionally baked with freshly-ground Tandoori spices in yogurt and tomato sauce, served over Basmati rice.

I really liked this dish. It was also a bit spicy for me, but I really didn’t mind. I LOVE the Basmati rice. That was really good. The chicken was nice too. Sometimes in frozen pre-made meals chicken can be fatty or chewy. This chicken was not. It seemed like quality pieces of meat.

Saffron Road Chickpeas

Crunchy Chickpeas: Internationally inspired exotic and all-natural flavors make these organic chickpeas an irresistible and healthy snack.

My kids loved these. I tried them too. They certainly do not taste like Chickpeas. The spices make them very flavorful. I didn’t think my kids would like them, but they did. My favorite was the Falafel flavor, followed by the Bombay Spice. No one in my family was too keen on the Wasabi flavor chickpeas. They were just way too spicy.

Each frozen entree is satisfying enough for a lunch or even a dinner. My husband doesn’t like exotic foods so I can’t see him eating the Saffron Road products, however I would certainly purchase them and enjoy them for lunch or for dinner on those nights were we don’t have a regular dinner. The exotic flavors are unlike anything I’ve had before for lunch. It would certainly add some flavor to my otherwise boring lunch routine.

I also enjoyed the chickpea snacks and would buy them again for me and my children (except the Wasabi flavor). I think they appreciated the flavorful snacks too.
