I’m not necessarily a “girly-girl”. I don’t have a closet full of shoes and I don’t have shoes, belts and handbags to match every outfit I own. I’m just a simple girl, so I keep things as basic as possible. However that doesn’t mean for one moment that I don’t like, or enjoy, pretty things. I can’t walk past a jewelry store at the mall without something shiny and sparkling catching my eye. :-)

I have friends (including my daughter) who own numerous handbags. My daughter has so many that we had to pack some away and store them in my father’s basement. Many of my friends are like that too. I never see them with the same handbag twice.

I do like handbags, but I’m not obsessed with them. I have a few that I use on a regular basis. I swap them out depending on my need. I have my every day bag, my larger tote bag, my “date night/night on the town” bag and a couple of others.

I tend to go for smaller bags compared to huge, tote size bags. My daughter loves the huge bags so she can carry around her entire life in them (ha ha). As for me, I keep them small because I only carry around a few basic things (cards, cash, phone, keys, chapstick, lotion…).

Recently I was asked if I wanted to review a beautiful hand painted bag from Vakaro.com. I was asked to visit the site and pick out one I wanted to review. That was easier said than done. I have about a half dozen bags that I really liked. It was hard to pick just one. I finally picked the one called Butterfly Marvel. I happen to love butterflies, and a dear friend of mine nicknamed me “my precious butterfly”, so it seemed only fitting that I pick a butterfly themed bag.

Beautiful, isn’t it?

Because the bags are hand painted I was prepared for some variations in the design and colors. I was very surprised to find that the bag looked almost identical. There was even more parts of the bag that were hand painted that were not seen on the website.

This is not a huge bag. It’s an average size bag. It measures 8″ L x 3.5″ W and 7″ H. It might be an average size but it sure has an ABOVE average amount of space for all your stuff. It’s surprisingly very roomy.

It even has a mirror on the side flap (a nice size one too!).

Check out all the spaces available with this hand bag. Please note that I took these pictures before I put my stuff inside. I didn’t want people seeing photos of my debit card and other personal items.

Bag 1

Bag looks identical to the one on the site.

Bag 2

Two outside pockets. Great for sunglasses and cellphones.

Bag 4

Hand painted throughout.

Bag 5

Plenty of room for cards and a checkbook.

Bag 6

Plenty of slots and even a built in change purse.

Bag 7

Inside pocket also hand painted.

Bag 9

Plenty of room inside including a zippered pocket.

I love that they paid great attention to detail and made sure there was more than enough room for everything most people would need to carry with them in their bags.

I love the design. I especially love the metallic accents throughout the flowers and butterflies. It really makes the design “pop”.

The bag is very soft too. Sometimes when you have a brand new bag they are stiff. This bag feels like it’s been well loved for years. It’s very soft and pliable.

I’ve been using this bag exclusively for a couple of weeks and I get a lot of compliments on it. Almost everyone compliments me on the design and how colorful it is. When I tell people it’s hand painted they find that amazing. A lot of people have asked me where I got the bag from too.

Vakaro offers different types of bags including Hobo, Satchel, Weekender, Tote and more. Here are a few more examples of the types of beautifully hand painted bags you’ll find at Vakaro.

Because each bag is hand painted (colored) there might be some differences. Some pieces are also limited editions due to the personal nature of each design.

All of these bags are leather. I know some people are against leather and animal products. I personally don’t use products made with fur, leather or anything that was tested on animals. With five cats, a dog and fish it’s clear that I am an animal lover. However I don’t judge people for their choices. I’m in my mid-40′s and have never owned anything made out of leather. I don’t think this one bag is going to make me out to be a horrible person.
