Are you still stumped on what to get Dad (or that special man in your life) for Father’s Day? I know I sure was. Father’s Day came about so quickly. It seems like it was just Mother’s Day yesterday and now BOOM! It’s Father’s Day this weekend. Needless to say I’ve totally unprepared for a gift for my father, as well as a little something for my husband.
I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to think of a great Father’s Day gift for my father and/or husband. They certainly don’t need ties (my father is retired, my husband doesn’t need to wear one for work), mugs or silly little things to sit on their desk. I want to get something they can use and enjoy. Then I thought to myself – what about a gift basket? You don’t have to purchase pre-made gift baskets (you can if you want). Gift baskets are so easy to make. All you need is a container and the goodies to stuff inside of it.
I was trying to think of different themes for gift baskets to figure out what I could buy to go inside. Two ideas came to mind – car care and snacks.
For my father I’m going to buy a bucket (the kind you use to wash your car with) and fill it with some car supplies like sponges, shammies, wax, white wall tire cleaner and some other goodies (I’m going to take a trip to the auto supply store on Saturday and see what else I can find).
For my husband I was thinking snacks. He loves to snack on foods. He’s also as skinny as a toothpick. I wish I had even a fraction of his metabolism. I merely LOOK at food and gain 10 pounds. LOL!
I want to give my husband snacks that are tasty, but also more nutritious and better for him than other snacks. Here are a few ideas that I had in mind.
Wholefoods Market 365 Trail Mix Blends – Trail mix makes a great snack because there are so many different varieties. I have been snacking on the Summit Seeker mix. It’s filled with huge nuts (walnuts, peanuts, almonds…) and seeds. The nuts and seeds are in their natural state. They haven’t been coated in chocolate, or sugar or anything else to take away from their natural flavor.
The Blueberry Blaze trail mix looks good too. I love blueberries and I think the sweet, tart taste of the blueberries would go well with the heart nut flavors.
What I love about trail mixes like this is that they are good for you. A handful of either trial mix would make a satisfying snack and you won’t have to worry about over indulging in excess fat, calories or sugar. Trail mixes can sometimes give you an extra boost to make it through the day.
Having trail mix on hand at the office could curb those trips to the vending machine and hold you over until dinner time.
A bag of unsalted pretzels and some mustard. I prefer to offer my family unsalted pretzels. They don’t need any excess salt in their diets. Besides, when you have mustard like Whole Foods Market’s 365 Organic German Mustard who needs salt. This mustard packs a kick! It’s very creamy and is packed with flavor. A little squirt of this on a pretzel will go a long way. Not only that this would be great on hot dogs. If there is something my husband loves most in this world it’s barbecued hamburgers and mustard.
Whole Foods Market’s 365 brand has a creamy Almond Butter that would make the perfect addition to a snack gift basket. Almond Butter can be enjoyed on rice cakes, crackers, toast and right out of the jar (shhh… don’t tell anyone that I do that ).
There are a lot more great snacks available at your local Whole Foods Market that would make ideal additions to a Father’s Day Snack Gift Basket.
Can you thin of other good snack ideas I can use to include in the gift basket? I’m thinking popcorn and some fresh fruits. If you have any other suggestions I’d love to hear them.
