It’s summer time. That means many families are packing their bags and heading off to the beach. My family alternates what year we go to the beach. This is not a “beach year”. We went to the beach last year. Personally I don’t mind. I enjoy the beach, even though I need to hide from the sun (I burn very easily). I love watching the waves and strolling on the broad walk.
The beach is synonymous with not only summer, but also romance. Think about classic movies like Beach Party, Grease (Danny & Sandy fell in love at the beach) and From Here To Eternity. They all featured a man and a woman falling in love on the glistening sandy beaches with waves crashing around them.
Disney has created a new romantic beach movie in the tradition of the Beach Party movies for a new generation.
On July 19, 2013, the Disney Channel will premiere the newest Disney film, Teen Beach Movie. Teen Beach Movie brings to life the 60’s era-like music, surfing, dancing and teen romance. It reminds me of the movies I mentioned before – Beach Party & Grease mixed up with a little West Side Story (or in this case “Wet” Side Story).
Check out the movie’s trailer.
Me, my husband and our daughter looking forward to the movie’s premiere and we are planning on a viewing party complete with some fun Teen Beach Movie goodies and props. The Disney Channel was kind enough to send my family a lot of Teen Beach Movie theme goodies free so that my family could set up a really fun viewing party when the movie airs. I also purchased additional goodies at my expense. There was no compensation.
My son was not totally on board until we received the fun things from the Disney Channel, including a blow up surf board. Once my son saw the surf board he started to get into the movie too.
We didn’t have an air pump for the surf board so I had to blow it up by my mouth. Ouch! My lips were sore afterwards.
Here is the movie’s synopsis;
Teen Beach Movie” follows teen surfing sweethearts Brady and McKenzie who together ride the last wave of summer, one that mysteriously takes them into a classic beach party movie, “Wet Side Story.” There, it’s surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout…and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance. Now, Brady and McKenzie must try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever when they inadvertently alter the movie’s romantic storyline when handsome surfer Tanner falls for McKenzie and biker girl Lela starts swooning for Brady.
When it’s time to watch the movie I want my family to feel like they are spending the day at the beach too. That is why I picked up some fun beach-theme decorations and party favors.
I LOVE these coconut and pineapple cups that I found. I’m not sure what tropical beverage I can serve, but I was thinking fruit punch and Shirley Temples. With fun cups we need to have some fun beach/tropical drinks. Lemonade would work too.
I also found some beach-theme cut outs. I was going to hang them up on the wall but I am thinking of taking the whole puncher and popping holes in the top and tie some Mylar tassels on them and hang them from the ceiling and/or the openings between the hallway & living room and living room & dining room.
I picked up from floral leis too. My husband thinks they are more tropical than “beachy”, but I think they are still fun none the less.
For snacks I plan on serving my family fruits and veggies, along with the usual chips and dips. I’m also going to make some popcorn.
I want to make a cake. I have a recipe for a cool surf board cake that I want to try, but baking is not my forte. What I was thinking of making instead is pudding and topping it with crushed graham crackers to represent sand and then some of those sea shell shaped chocolates. That would be a lot easier for me to make (plus I can’t burn it – LOL).
Disney Channel did send me some Teen Beach Movie theme cups for the popcorn but I found a better way to serve it, as well as the chips – sand buckets! How cute is that. I picked up sand buckets for everyone. I was going to take some permanent markers and decorate them too with each person’s name.
Teen Beach Movie stars Ross Lynch (Brady), from the Disney Channel show Austin & Ally. The film also stars Maia Mitchell (McKenzie) who currently stars on the series The Fosters. Other familiar faces include Kevin Chamberlin (Bertram on the series Jessie), Grace Phipps (Vampire Diaries) and Steven Valentine (Wizards of Waverly Place movie).
I have a feeling that this movie is going to be a huge hit. I’m already digging the songs from the movie. Even our friend’s 7 year old daughter goes crazy over the commercial promos for the film.
I have a huge surprise for her the next time we see them. The Disney Channel sent me a McKenzie doll from the movie. Oh! Our friend’s little girl is going to be on “cloud nine” when she sees this.
I am so tempted to open the box, but I won’t. I’ll give it to her in the full package. I cannot wait to give it to her. :-)!!!!
