The other night my husband and I were talking about technology and how much it’s changed since we were teenagers. Remote controls, computers and Walkman were the most amazing feats of technology as far as we were concerned. Not having to get up and walk across the room whenever you wanted to change the channel on the TV was a genious idea. To think that one day we could not only watch TV, but also movies, on a portable telephone/computer was something that we could have never believed 30+ years ago. To say technology has changed by leaps and bounds in an understatement.

These days what would we ever do without our smartphones? I firmly believe that both of my kids think their phones are a form of “life support”. The easiest way to teach them a lesson, or to get them to do something, is to take away their phone. They simply cannot function without it.

My husband was totally against smartphones, that is until he got an iPhone. Now he’s attached to his phone too. Thankfully I have not been bitten by the phone bug – yet. While I do appreciate my smartphone I can live without it if need be.

When you have a cell phone it’s important that you find the best possible plan to fit your budget. My husband and I did a lot of research and checked out almost every possible plan with all carriers to find the best one for our family. I happen to like the plans you can get that don’t require a contract. That way you can get out of service if you don’t like it or you find something better.

We thought about moving our kids to a no-contract plan when they are older and have a job. We think learning to pay their own cellphone bill will teach them responsibility. After all, if you don’t pay your bill you don’t have a phone. And they certainly can’t live without their phones.

GIV Mobile is a company that offers consumers no-contract mobile service. They have a plan as low as $40 a month and that includes everything AND it’s unlimited (250 MB high speed data). If you have a teenager you know the value of unlimited texting. When our kids used to have phones with pre-paid minutes our daughter would go through the minutes in a matter of days simply by texting her friends. I think we’d be in the poor house for sure if we had to pay for texting. I’m sure most parents would agree.

GIV Mobile has another plan (2 GB high speed) for only $10 more per month.

In addition to unlimited talk, text and data GIV Mobile also provides consumers with

  • Nationwide Coverage
  • Free Nationwide Long Distance
  • Voicemail
  • Caller ID
  • 3-Way Calling
  • Call Waiting
  • International Dialing

As if the plans aren’t great enough, GIV Mobile goes one step further. Every month 8% of your monthly payment goes to a non-profit organization of your choice. Imagine that – not only are you getting a lot of valuable service and plenty of “bells and whistles”, but you are also GIVing to your favorite non-profit charity too. It’s a win-win situation all around.

You can pick which charity will benefit from your monthly GIV Mobile payment. You can select charities from various categories including education, animals, health environment, arts & humanities, international or public benefit.

Some of the great charities that will benefit from the 8% of you GIV Mobile bill include;

  • The United Way Worldwide
  • PetSmart Charities
  • The Wilderness Society
  • American Red Cross
  • Feeding America
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities
  • Doctors Without Borders
  • United States Fund for UNICEF

These are just a handful of the charities you can designate the 8% of your GIV Mobile bill too.

I know that many people, myself included, like to give to our favorite charities whenever possible. As you know, life happens and sometimes we either forget or we don’t have any money left over in our budget to make a contribution. Using GIV Mobile services ensures that your favorite charity will continue to benefit from your donations on a monthly basis, without you having to think about it, as long as you are a GIV Mobile customer. What an excellent idea!

It’s important for me to give to charities because there are so many causes that need the financial support. I can’t afford to donate to all of them but I do give to a few that are dear to me. Cancer charities are one because I’ve lost loved ones to that horrible disease and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence is another I strongly support.

One reason that it’s important for me to give to charity is that my faith asks it of me. We believe you should give to charity daily. It doesn’t have to be a daily $25 contribution to Austism Speaks, e.g – it can be as simple as buying a homeless person a sandwich and a cup of coffee. It is important though, too, to contribute, when you can, to organized charities.

I think it is important to give back to your community. It is what actually makes it a community instead of just a bunch of individuals. If everyone did their part to give back the world would be better. We give to several organizations but one we really care about is SeaSheperd.org We can’t believe that there are countries still killing whales.
