I grew up drinking tea, even at a very young age. My mom was from the United Kingdom and carried on the “tea time” tradition she grew up with in our family. I still remember when my great-grandparents were alive and having tea with them in my great-grandmothers beautiful Royal Alert tea cups. When my great-grandparents were alive we drank our tea from fancy tea cups. As the years went by we drank our tea in ordinary cups or mugs.
I didn’t carry the “tea time” tradition with my family. My husband used to drink tea when he was younger but doesn’t care for it much anymore. He might drink a little tea from time to time, but he won’t go out of his way to drink it. My kids will only drink ice tea.
I enjoy sampling different flavors and blends of tea including black teas, green teas and herbal teas. I usually stick to a breakfast or Earl Grey blends. When it comes to herbal tea I like peppermint and licorice teas.
I always use tea bags when brewing my tea. That is because I’m the only one in my family who drinks tea, so brewing large amounts is pointless. I also know nothing about brewing lose teas, nor did I have a tea ball or something to brew lose tea in.
Recently I received a special cup to help me brew lose teas (look for that review coming soon). I’m glad I had the opportunity to review it because it allowed me to review some lose teas too.
Tea Gallerie, a San Diego, California based loose tea dealer sent me a couple of packages of tea to review. They carry 180 different exotic teas, all of which are organic and fair trade. Who knew there were that many varieties of teas in the world. That blows my mind. I never knew there were THAT MANY varieties. They also carry a special Teas4Kids line of teas.
Teas4Kids is a line of delicious fruity herbal teas made especially for children. They are a healthier alternative to sugary juices and sodas. They contain no caffeine or sugar and can be enjoyed hot or cold. They also have vitamins and minerals in them and come in kid friendly flavors such as “Hello Kiwi” and “Orange Sunny”.
Tea Gallerie sent me two different flavors;
Coconut Cacao Black
A unique concoction of chocolate, vanilla, coconut scented black tea blended with the smoothness of rooibos and apples.
Tropical Passion Fruit
Green tea hand crafted with tropical flavors of pineapple, mango and papaya offering a sweet and refreshing sensation.
These are two unique flavors that I probably would never try on my own because they are very exotic. I guess I am boring when it comes to my tea flavors.
The Coconut Cacao Black hardly seems like a black tea. It’s very flavorful. It’s a great “pick me up” for the late in the afternoon. It smells amazing! Even my kids love the smell of this tea (they just have no interest in drinking it). You really can smell the coconut and a touch of cocoa (I honestly don’t smell the vanilla, but that is OK).
I didn’t read the directions for the Tropical Passion Fruit the first time I made it. I made it too strong. WOW! Did that pack a punch. LOL! The next time I made it I did it properly.
I normally drink my tea plain (nothing added) or with a smidgen of sugar & milk, or lemon juice. I didn’t feel the need to sweeten the Tropical Passion Fruit. It was perfect “as is”. It does have a very fruit taste to it. I mostly taste the mango and papaya. When I drink this tea I think about the beach and summer time, even though hot tea is not normally something you would drink on the beach.
The Tea Gallerie offers unique blends I have never heard of before (nor can I imagine what they must taste like).
- Chocolate Orange
- Cinnamon Plum
- Pumpkin Spice
- Strawberry Fields
- Cherry Rose
- Jasmine Blueberry
- Moroccan Mint
- Caramelized Apple
- Christmas Brew
- Mint Chocolate
There are 180 blends in all.
Tea Gallerie would like to give one She Scribes reader a package of Coconut Cacao Black tea and Tropical Passion Fruit tea.
