Add a zing of flavor to your meals with Onion Crunch

Onion Crunch LogoHow many times have you tried to add a dash of flavor to ordinary dishes? Usually people reach for herbs and spices to change up the taste a bit. Other people use condiments such as ketchup, mustard or mayo. Have you ever considered onions? I’m not talking about the kind  you have to chop up and that makes you cry. I’m talking about Onion Crunch. They are fried onions that add a dash of flavor (and crunch!) to your meals.

I’m sure many people have used fried onions in their recipes before. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Thanksgiving dinner with my family growing up that didn’t include the classic green bean casserole dish. To be honest, that was the only time my mom would buy fried onions. I guess she couldn’t think of other recipes to use them with.

My family loves to snack on fried onions, but never did we think to add them to our meals.

Onion Crunch has taken fried onions to a whole new level. They are  more than just fried onions – they are fried onions packed with flavor. Unlike other fried onions, Onion Crunch comes in a variety of flavors (some of which might surprise you!).

Onion Crunch is available in;

  • Original
  • Chipotle
  • Barbecue
  • Bacon

And coming soon…

  • Ketchup
  • Pickle
  • Mustard

Pickle flavored sounds yummy. The new flavors are not onion based.

Onion Crunch Varieties

I was sent a few flavors to review – Original, Chipotle, Barbecue and Bacon. Each one comes in a plastic container that you can seal, that way you can take out as much as you need for your recipe and save the rest for later.

WARNING – You most likely won’t save them for later – you’ll probably snack on them and gobble them up within days. That is what happened with the samples I received. :-)

It’s hard to believe you are eating onions. They are really packed with flavor.

Onion Crunch onions can be used as a snack or in your favorite recipes. Some suggestions they give on the site include stuffed peppers, baked potatoes, casseroles, dips, chili and hot dogs. I would love to add to the list to include soup (especially tomato soup!), salad, mixed in with steamed veggies and melted in a grilled cheese sandwich.

I love the classic tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich for lunch from time to time. Normally I toss in a little rice or some left over pasta to jazz up the tomato soup a bit. I sprinkled some barbecue flavored Onion Crunch on the soup and OH MY! It was so good! I didn’t need to add anything else to an otherwise boring soup.

I even added some to my grilled cheese! Before I put the top piece of bread on I sprinkled some of the bacon flavored Onion Crunch on to the cheese. As it grilled and the cheese melted the Onion Crunch was melted into the cheese. While it didn’t keep it’s crunch (it got soft) it did add a lot of flavor to my grilled cheese sandwich.

Another use I found for Onion Crunch was to mix it in with macaroni salad. I mixed some in (it did get soft because of the mayo but the flavor was still there) and then sprinkled a little on top (kind of like a decoration). I wish I had another chance to make macaroni salad because I wanted to try it with the other flavors we had (I used the bacon flavored when I made macaroni salad).

Onion Crunch Mac & Cheese

If you or your kids enjoy macaroni and cheese, try sprinkling some on top. I know some people use bread crumbs to top off their baked mac and cheese. In stead of bread crumbs crush up some Onion Crunch and sprinkled that on top.

Speaking of bread crumbs and easy way to add flavor to your breaded meat dishes (pork cutlets, chicken cutlets, fish…) is to crush up your favorite Onion Crunch flavor and either mix it in with your regular bread crumbs (that is what I did) or use them instead of bread crumbs. You can really taste the difference. My family did. I normally use Italian flavored or plain bread crumbs. When I tried the original Onion Crunch flavor mixed in with regular bread crumbs on some pork cutlets my family noticed the flavor. My husband sensed the onion flavor, my kids just knew something tasted different.

With Onion Crunch the possibilities are endless. Plus you can snack on them too (which is how the Onion Crunch we had disappeared so quickly that is why I had to hide a couple of the containers).

Onion Crunch is available at many grocery stores across the country including Costco, Ralphs, Key Food, Duane Reed, Shop Rite, Walmart and Safeway, to name a few. Check out their store locator page to find more retailers.
