I am a huge fan of the horror movie genre. I love films that make me stay on the edge of my seat and afraid to sleep with the lights off at night. 🙂 I am also a fan of zombie movies. I’m not someone who jumped on the “zombie bandwagon” as soon as The Walking Dead became popular. I’ve always liked zombie movies. In fact in high school (back in 85′) my friends and I were nicknamed the Dawn of the Dead Girls by friends of ours who had a band. That is because they hung out at my house one night to watch the film Dawn of the Dead.
If there is a zombie movie out there I want to see it!
I heard about a film called Zombie Massacre that was being released on Blu-ray August 6, 2013. I was sent a free screener copy to review.
Zombie Massacre is about a quiet little town that becomes victim to a top secret bacteriological weapon developed by the U.S. Government. The toxin was suppose to turn people into super soldiers. Instead it turns people into flesh eating zombies.
In order to cover up their huge mistake, the government sends in some mercenaries into the city to set off an atomic bomb to destroy the entire city and all it’s undead residents.
Unbeknown to the group that heads into the city to destroy it, they were not meant to survive. They are suppose to blow up along with everyone else. That way no one ever knows the truth about the experiment that went wrong.
One the group realizes that they were never meant to survive they do their best to try and escape the city before getting eaten alive so that they can tell the world what had happened and whose fault it was.
Will any of them escape before it’s too late? Will the truth ever be told? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Zombie Massacre, now available where most movies are sold.
Here is the trailer for your enjoyment.
The film was just OK. I wasn’t overly impressed, nor was I bored to death.
These are fast zombies, unlike the kind you would see in Night of the Living Dead (anyone could out run those zombies). As far as their appearance goes they were not too grotesque.
There was a lot of blood and guts, but not more then I would except from a zombie vs. soldiers type of movie.
One of the characters, Eden, reminded me a lot of the character of Michonne from The Walking Dead. She runs around with machetes on her back and she’s not afraid to use them. She can whack off a zombie head with ease – just like she was cutting through butter. She is also quite and tough as nails like Michonne. I don’t know if their similarities were intentional or its just a coincidence.
Towards the end of the film there is a “super zombie” (for lack of a better description) that appears. He’s a gigantic monster looking zombie. I didn’t find him scary. I found him to be more comical. They could have done without his scenes.
The story it’s self was good. The film it’s self just seemed to be lacking something. Like I said before, it was OK. It entertained me but I’m not sure if I would go out of my way to watch it again, unless it showed up on HBO or Starz.
There are a few bonus features on the Blu-ray copy.
- Making-of Featurette
- Storyboard Comparison
- Teaser & Trailer
I liked the Making Of Featurette because it gives you a glimpse of the behind the scenes stuff including how they pull off some of the bloody scenes. I think that is pretty cool. It’s hard to believe that all that oozing and guts is really latex and liquid.
For die hard zombie fans you might be disappointed. For those of you who are easily scared and close your eyes during scary scenes, the Zombie Massacre would be a good movie for you.
