Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I can’t believe it! It seems like just yesterday we were enjoying hamburgers, hot dogs and lemonade on the Fourth of July.
What are you Thanksgiving plans this year? This year it’s just me, my husband and our two children. Usually we end up eating so much before dinner that come dinner time we’re not hungry.
I like to set out a spread around lunch time (late morning) with fresh fruit, raw veggies, dip, crackers, cheese, chips, dips and cookies. Most of the time we fill up on that so when it comes time to eat we are not that hungry. I COULD reduce the stuff we put out for lunch, but I know that is the highlight of my kid’s holiday (they look forward to that more so than the dinner) so I don’t want to break with tradition.
I know a lot of people like to make a lot of dishes they serve on Thanksgiving from scratch, do you?
Homemade stuffing is always delicious. I love homemade stuffing more than boxed (pre-made) stuffing because you can do so much to it by using different breads and adding different ingredients.
Instead of using regular white bread why not switch it up this year and use a bread that is better for you? For example, try making your stuffing with 100% Whole Wheat, Sourdough, Premium Potato or Double Protein bread? Arnold (also known as Oroweat or Brownberry depending on where you live) offers a large assortment of better for you breads that you could use to make stuffing. Not only can you jazz u the taste a bit but you can also offer guests an extra dose of fiber, protein and/or whole grains.
I have to admit that I usually get pre-made stuffing, but I like the idea of trying a different kind of bread (or maybe more than one kind) and making homemade stuffing this year.
You could also serve any of the Arnold breads warmed. Put a loaf in the over for a few minutes to warm it up and serve it with fresh butter. Yummy!
One of the best things about Thanksgiving is the left overs (which we usually have A LOT of). The idea of left over turkey and some cranberry sauce on a couple of slices of Oatnut bread makes my mouth water! I CANNOT wait for Thanksgiving!
Not only will I be getting protein from the turkey but I’ll also be getting much needed whole grains and fiber.
Just because it’s Thanksgiving and it’s all about eating and spending quality time with family and friends, it doesn’t mean that you can’t make better for you choices. I’m sure there are any recipes that you make where you can swap out an unhealthy ingredient for something that is better for you.
I challenge you to think about what recipes you will be making this Thanksgiving and find ways to make them “better for you”, even if it means swapping out an ingredient or two.

I think this tip works perfectly with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. If you prepare and plan for the day you can ensure that you don’t over eat or over indulge, which will only leave you feeling guilty and mad at yourself.
Just because it’s Thanksgiving doesn’t mean that you have to skip your normal work out. Using different Arnold/Oreweat/Brownberry breads in your recipes or with your sandwiches will make sure that you don’t get bored eating the same old thing each day. If you tend to have A LOT of turkey leftovers I’m sure you’ll want different ways to enjoy it.

I think winning $20,000 would be a great way to start off the new year (even $5,000 would be nice too). You don’t need to wait until the new year to start making yourself a better person (the person you want to bee). If I won the contest I would use the money to go back to college and finish my degree. I have 12 credits to get my Bachelor’s Degree and I would very much love to get my Master’s Degree. I think having my degree will make me feel better about myself. I think I would have more confidence and self worth because I know I have something of value to offer an employer. Plus if I’m lucky I could have my dream career (Forensic Psychology).
