Have you started to decorate for Christmas yet? Sadly, some stores have been putting out holiday items since September (that is pushing it!). As the days go on more and more holiday decorations appear. I’ve even been hearing Christmas songs on the radio!
I have to admit that we are sort of decorated for Christmas. My husband tries to get the outside lights and decorations up a bit early while the weather is still decent. The longer he waits the colder it gets. In fact this weekend we are suppose to go down to the teens in temperatures.
We wait until after Thanksgiving to put up our light up Santa and Frosty. We also don’t turn the outside lights on until after Thanksgiving. If my son had it his way the light would be on already. He’s anxious to be able to turn them on.
We also don’t put up our Christmas tree until the weekend after Thanksgiving. We have an artificial Christmas tree. It’s 16 years old and showing it’s age. We’d love to get one of those pre-lit trees that go together in three pieces. Our current tree you have to assemble branch by branch, then you have to deal with putting on lights only to find out that they don’t work.
I would love to get a real one but with our current living situation the tree would have to go in front of the sliding glass door which means it will get constant sunlight all day long and that will cause it to dry out quicker. Dried holiday tress make me nervous. I wouldn’t want to risk a house fire.
I have started to put up decorations here and there. Most of our stuff we won’t be able to hang up because we purged our home of “stuff” when we were on the market. Our stuff is EVERYWHERE – in our storage room, our neighbor’s storage room and in my father’s basement upstate. I can’t locate a lot of our stuff, including our wreath for the front door and our wreath hook. Sigh… At least I have a few of our decorations up and a few more that I’ll put up soon. I just need to find something for the front door.
Do you put up a wreath on your front door? If so, what kind of wreath do you use – a real one or an artificial one?
