A beautiful and unique idea for the book lover in your life

Books

Do you have someone special on your holiday shopping list who loves books? Or do you know someone who has a favorite book (perhaps a classic or a childhood favorite) and you would love to gift the a truly unique gift based on their beloved book? If you answer “yes” to either question I have a beautiful and unique gift idea. It’s called Spineless Classics.

Look at the photo below.

Christmas Carol

What do you see in this photo? Does it look like? Does it look like Ebenezer Scrooge lifting Tiny Tim up on his shoulder?

What do you suppose all those black lines are around the page that forms the image? Would you believe me if I told you they were words. Not only words but the ENTIRE Christmas Carol story!

That’s right – the entire classic story is strategically printed on the print to form an image from the story.

Here is another example. It’s the story Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Harry Potter Spineless Classics

The text forms Harry’s infamous glasses as well as his owl, Hedwig.

Spineless Classics re-created classic and beloved books and prints them IN THEIR ENTIRTY in poster form. Each one comes with an image from the story.

Spineless Classic sent me one to review. It was hard to pick out which one because they have so many wonderful books to choose from like Alice in Wonderland, Little Women, The Hobbit, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Romeo & Juliet, Dracula, Black Beauty, Wizard of Oz and The Lost World, to name a FEW. They have dozens of titles to choose from.

I chose Peter Pan. I’m a big kid at heart and it’s one of my favorite Disney films. My favorite scene (and song) is when Peter Pan shows Wendy, John and Michael how they can fly.

Think of a wonderful thought
Any merry little thought
Think of  Christmas, think of snow
Think of sleigh bells – off you go!
Like a reindeer in the sky
You can fly! You can fly! You can fly!

I was super excited to see the Spineless Classic in person. I couldn’t wait to see if I could actually read the entire story from the picture.

Before it arrived I took the measurements to purchase a frame for it. I wanted to hang it up as soon as it arrived.

I was shocked when it arrived. It’s HUGE! I was very impressed.

To give you an idea, here is my framed print next to a standard size refridgerator.

Peter Pan Spineless Classics

As you can see it’s almost as big as the fridge door.

The picture does NOT do it justice. It’s much more beautiful in person (plus the glare takes away from it’s beauty).

Sadly it’s not hanging up right now. It’s bigger than I anticipated. The wall I was going to put it on wasn’t wide enough. I am going to hang it up in my kid’s room instead. It’s just a matter of my hubby getting around to helping me. I want to use a “molly” to make sure it’s secure and won’t fall off the wall. Our walls are old and crumbly and I wouldn’t want this to fall and break. It’s much too lovely for that to happen.

You might be wonder if the text is the entire story of Peter Pan? It is! But not the Disney version, it’s the original version written by J. M. Barrie.

The font size on the text is small to accommodate the entire story on the print, but you can easily read it word for word. Even my old eyes were able to read it (I need bifocals and I’m fighting it every step of the way).

You would think something like this would cost a fortune. They range in price from $41.99 to $99.99 depending on the size of the story and complexity of the design and it’s over all size. Peter Pan, for example, is  24″ in x 36″ (print only – the frame makes it larger). It costs $66.99. If I remember correctly the frame cost me about $25. So for less than $100 I have not only a beloved classic book immortalized, but also a stunning piece of artwork that you’ll cherish forever.

Spineless Classics would make an amazing gift. They are also a delightful way to add artwork to your home or even a child’s bedroom.

What book would you love to see turned into a Spineless Classic? Would you give this as a gift or use this to decorate your home?

  1. This is such a great idea! I know my daughter would love the Harry Potter picture. I really like how unique this is. It’s not a gift that all their friends will have.

  2. I think it is a great idea for a home library or a family room. When I was a kid my favorite series was Black Stallion, that would probably make a cool picture.

  3. Love this! If I wasn’t so broke from already buying gifts I would have got this for my girlfriend(we’re both book lovers, her more than me.)

Looks like I’ll have a good idea of something for her birthday or a ‘I love you here’s a gift’ day :)

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention.

  4. Such a unique gift for a book lover. I love how huge they are! Yes, a great wall hanging for a library. I love real books and although I love my ereader, I how they never go away (and long live the book stores too!)

I love to read and was so surprised that I can put a whole book on a art piece. How wonderful! I would love to put the whole Bible on a wall art! Or I would like the book story the Wizard of Oz put on a wall art. Too many possibilities!

What a wonderful idea. This is something my son-in-law would love. Maybe it will be a present for next Christmas. I wish I had know about it sooner.

  7. I love this!!! I would like to see Pride and Prejudice as a Spineless Classic and I’d put it on my wall. Thank you for sharing this review.

  8. Olivia Rubin says:

That is such beautiful artwork. I love it even for a child’s room. And the prices are quite reasonable. I just love how the photo alone relays the story and them the idea that the photo is the story, what a great product.
