This time of year our minds are all over the place. We think about the holidays, gifts, parties, traveling, vacation time… the list goes on and on. Probably one of the last things to cross your mind is your hair.
I’ll be honest with you, my hair isn’t always high on my priority list. I pretty much have my hair in a ponytail all the time. I don’t have the time to do up my hair like I used to. At one point in my life I wouldn’t leave home unless my hair was perfectly coiffed. I would also put so much product in my hair that a tornado wouldn’t even coax a single hair out of place. These days I just comb my hair and pull it back in a scrunchie.
We shouldn’t neglect our hair. As you get older your hair changes. Not only do you have to fight off the grays (or in my case white and silver hairs), but the texture of your hair chances too. My once super thick hair is a lot thinner then it used to be, and it tends to break much easier too.
I have some great hair care tips to give you healthy and fabulous hair, for the holidays and beyond. These tips come to you courtesy of Nina Sutton for Alberto VO5.
Traveling during the holidays is inevitable, so be prepared for any situation! Many hotels (or in-laws) most likely won’t have products for that fabulous color-treated hair of yours so make sure to bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Don’t forget to pack some leave-in conditioner too for added moisture and protection during these dry months.
Between dry climate, sun exposure and winter conditions (think snow, rain, wind and more), hair can get pretty damaged! Bring conditioning treatments like VO5’s Simply Stunning Leave-In Conditioner to keep your hair moisturized and healthy 24/7.
Busy women often head straight to their holiday parties from work, so make sure you keep your styling products on hand during these hectic months. Two essential products include anti-frizz and shine creams (to smooth your hair for the perfect ponytail or revitalize your limp curls) and hairspray (to make that chic-chignon stay in place all night long or add volume to your voluptuous curls).
This time of year we use flat and curling irons almost every day, which leaves your hair brittle, dull and dry. Keep your hair looking healthy without the expensive salon visit by doing a moisturizing mask two times week. You can also use a leave-in conditioner after the shower and before you use heat tools.
Looking for moisture in other parts of your life? Don’t forget to up your daily water intake every day and add a humidifier to your room for added infused moisture. Your skin will thank you!
Oils are all the rage in skincare these days and they are great for your hair as well. During the busy holiday season, take a moment to pamper your scalp and hair in the shower by using a hot-oil treatment. Massage the oil into your scalp down to the ends of your hair to revitalize your hair and senses. Your hair and mind will be less frazzled!
Holiday hair styles are all about volume; but we often lose the shine that we crave once we get the oomph! Look for products that deliver both volume and shine for healthy, sexy, bombshell hair. For easy volume, start with a full-body shampoo and conditioner. Next, apply mousse to damp hair and either air or blow dry hair. Finally, for added volume, after drying hair, flip your head upside down and spray hairspray; flip your head back for festive fullness.
Busy women like you (especially moms!) don’t have the time to deal with damaged, dull hair; so the products you use should do the work for you! Look for products that contain vitamins and oils to strengthen and hydrate your hair. That way you can focus on everything else that goes along with the holidays!
This holiday season, make easy updates to your hair by investing in fabulous hair accessories like embellished head bands, barrettes, clips and ponytail holders. Women with long hair can finishing any look with a jeweled headband. Women with short hair can slick hair to the side with gel, followed by a crystal or embellished barrette.
These a great tips. I especially like the idea of a humidifier. We have one. I would never think it would benefit your hair too.
I tend to let my hair air dry naturally. When it’s just about dry I flip my head upside down and crunch the ends and run my fingers underneath. It really does boost up the fullness of your hair.
I have been using VO5 hot oil treatment in my hair since I was a teen. It really does wonder on your hair. I used to make an effort to use it in my hair every 2-3 weeks. As a busy mom I don’t take time to pamper myself, or my hair. Since reading these tips I plan on picking up a couple of boxes of Alberto VO5 Hot Oil and treat my hair.
Alberto VO5 sent me a lot of their products to try out with my family. I received to review;
VO5 Salon Series Hydrate + Nourish Shampoo – Washes your hair very well and rinses out completely.
VO5 Salon Series Hydrate + Nourish Conditioner – Leaves my hair feeling soft and easy to comb without weighing it down. Rinses out completely.
VO5 Salon Series Perfect Hold Styling Mousse – I have not tried this yet.
VO5 Salon Series Perfect Hold Non Aerosol Hair Spray – Great hold. You can comb your hair to style it shortly after you spray it and it still maintains it’s hold. It dries naturally. It doesn’t leave your hair feeling stiff or sticky.
VO5 Salon Series Perfect Hold Aerosol Hair Spray – I haven’t used this yet. I try and limit my use of aerosols.
VO5 Salon Series Perfect Hold Styling Gel – I have not tried this product yet.
VO5 Salon Series Simply Stunning Leave-In Conditioner – I have been using this every time I wash my hair, focusing on the ends. It helps me to comb my hair easier (helps to ease out knots or eliminate them). It doesn’t weigh your hair down nor does it leave it looking or feeling greasy.
VO5 Salon Series Anti-Frizz & Shine Styling Cream – You can use this on damp or dry hair. I’ve tried it both ways. If my hair is a bit unruly in the morning I put just a tiny dollup in my hand, rub my hands together and then comb my fingers through my hair, concentrating on the ends and the areas where it’s “poofy” or a bit out of control. You can also spritz your hair with a little water to dampen it and then apply the product (don’t over saturate your hair). A little bit of this cream goes a long way. This is a great product for styling your hair on those “in-between washing days”.
These are great hair care products. I’m glad I had the opportunity to try them out. My daughter is enjoying them too. My husband and son have crew cuts so all they need is the shampoo.
Look for these products where ever hair care products are sold.
