If you have been reading my blog for a while you know that I am a supporter of charities, especially those that help to fight hunger. No one should go hungry – ever. Most especially children.
As a parent I cannot imagine what it feels like knowing that my child has to go to bed at night hungry, and not knowing when and where our next meal will come from. That is a scary situation and it breaks my heart to think that millions of people are experiencing that RIGHT NOW.
In a world full of iPhones, Android devices, $$$$ cars and multi-million dollar homes it’s crazy to think that there are starving children right in our own backyard. 🙁
Recently I wrote a review for Hickory Farms. You can find that post here – Hickory Farms for the Holidays.
Hickory Farms is a long standing tradition with my family ever since my great-grandfather expressed his love of the Melt-a-Way mints when I was a child. Hickory Farms has been around for more than 60 years.
Even though he passed away in the early 80’s I always try and pick up a package of Melt-a-Way mints whenever I come across one of their holiday kiosks. If I happen to be purchasing gift packages as a gift I always make sure to have some Melt-a-Way mints sent my way.
I like that Hickory Farms offers a nice variety of products, especially specialty foods and holiday gifts. Hickory Farms offers quality and freshness which are important to their brand. They also have products available to suit just about any budget. Not only do their products make fine gifts they are also great to serve at holiday gatherings and for our family’s own personal enjoyment.
Hickory Farms also has several products that get FREE shipping to military APO and FPO addresses, including their “Home for the Holidays” gift basket and the “Beef Hearty Hickory” basket.
I personally love their Melt-a-Way mints, cheeses and spreads. Their sausages are really good too. In fact, Hickory Farms Signature Summer Sausage was recently rated the #1 Summer Sausage in America, winning the Masters of Taste Gold Medal for Superior Taste, in 2011.
This year Hickory Farms has introduced a line of artisanal products called Hickory Farms Reserve. This special collection will feature their premium Dry Aged Salami as well as eight all natural cheeses handcrafted by award winning masters (Cheddar Flight with Salami is just part of the Reserve brand). You can find the Reserve collection both online (HickoryFarms.com) and at one of their many retail store locations.
So what does Hickory Farms have to do with charitable giving and childhood hunger?
Hickory Farms has partnered with Share Our Strength (SOS), a leading non-profit organization, to help stamp out childhood hunger.
For everyone of their special Party Planner gift boxes sold this holiday season, Hickory Farms will donate $5.00 to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign. To date Hickory Farms and their customers has helped to donate $1.9 MILLION to the cause. I think that is awesome. It’s a win-win situation too – someone you know (or yourself) receives a yummy Party Planner gift box and Share Out Strength gets $5.00 towards helping to feed hungry children.
If you would like to learn more or to check out their products visit www.HickoryFarms.com. You can also find the brand on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

I remember when I was little, Grandpa got one of the Hickory Farms gift baskets every year for Christmas. He always shared those strawberry hard candies that were in there…. I loved those things.
