Do you ever wish you could come across a lucky find, like a rare gold coin or a prehistoric fossil? I sure have. I always make it a point to look carefully in the sand when I am at the beach, jus in case I find rare or special.
One time on a rocky beach in the UK I found a rock that had two holes in it that looked like they were drilled into it and another hole. Combined it looked like a face. I don’t know if it’s a freak of nature or something man made.
In Death Valley I found a rock with sea shells embedded in it, right there in the middle of the dessert! Sadly I lost the rock when I took it to “Show and Tell” at school. I put it in my lunch bag (brown paper bag) for safe keeping and accidently tossed it out with my left over lunch.
I even found a bone or tooth on the beach. I’m not sure what it is. It’s probably nothing but in the back of my mind I’d like to think it’s a tooth from a prehistoric beast.
I love it when I hear on the news how someone finds a huge diamond in their backyard, or even a chunk of gold.
I went panning for gold many years ago (about 30+ years ago) at Knots Berry Farm in California. They had a section of the park where you could pan for gold. I was SO EXCITED when I found several gold flecks. I thought I could save them for when I was older and use them to buy a house and a car (keep in mind I was about 9 or 10 years old at the time). For many years I kept the gold flakes in a bottle. Sadly my mom squashed my dreams when she told me a few years later that it was probably “Fool’s Gold” – it looks like gold but it’s really nothing and not worth a dime.
I don’t know whatever happened to the bottle. I might have thrown it out.
Wouldn’t it be great to discover something worth money? With the Pay Dirt Gold Company’s new Gold Rush Panning Kit you could strike it lucky.
The Gold Panning Kit is inspired by the #1 Friday night Discovery Channel series, Gold Rush. They wanted viewers to get the same experience at home so they developed a Gold Rush Panning Kit. It comes with almost everything you need to pan for gold in your own home. You just need a few extra accessories.
Included in the kit is;
- Professional gold pan
- Genuine gold – Most kits contain small amounts, while others have up to $500 worth of gold hidden inside
- Snuffer bottle for extracting gold from the dirt.
- Vintage vile to store their treasures.
- Certificate of authenticity.
I received a kit to try out at home with my family. My kids were excited to try out it. I thought we had everything we needed, but the instructions tell you to use a bucket, and we don’t have one. I have to pick one up at the hardware store. With it being the busy holiday season I haven’t had the opportunity to go out and buy a bucket. I don’t have anything in my home that would be big enough to put the pan in. I thought about the bathtub but I was afraid everything would end up going down the drain.
You also need a tweezers, but we have plenty of those.
I might not be able to get to the hardware store before the end of the year, however I wanted to let readers know about the Gold Panning Kit in case you want to give it as a gift. I’m pretty sure a Gold Panning Kit is not a gift someone would expect. I think it would be a fun kit not only for kids and teens, but also adults. It’s also a fun activity the entire family can do together.
The kit is available for purchase at www.PayDirtGold.com and www.DiscoveryStore.com for $39.99. You can even buy refills so you can extend your gold panning experience and attempt to uncover even more gold. Refill kits are available for purchase online too.
Your also encouraged to register your kit online at the PayDirtGold.com website.
There is an instructional video on the Pay Dirt Gold website that shows you just how easy it is.
I’m exited to try this out with my kids. Since they are off from school for two weeks for the holiday break this will give us something to do, especially if the weather doesn’t want to cooperate with us.

When my family has the opportunity to pan for gold I’ll be sure to update this post and let you know what we find. Who knows, maybe we’ll strike it rich for the new year. LOL!
