2014 Academy Awards – Share Your Thoughts #MODAwards

Did you have the opportunity to watch the 2014 Academy Awards last night? I watched them and I was tweeting about them all night long. If you want to see what I had to say you can check out the hashtag #MODAwards on Twitter.

I didn’t have an official “viewing party”. I would have but my husband wasn’t feeling well (he’s dealing with Bursitis in his shoulder right now) and my kids really didn’t have any interest.

First let’s talk fashion. Personally I’m not really into fashion. If it fits and looks good that is fine wit me. I’m a tee shirt and stretch pants kind of girl. LOL!

Some ladies really stood out (in my opinion – other people might think differently).

Amy Adams looked stunning in her perfectly fitting navy blue gown. Even her hair looked perfect.

Sandra Bullock also wore a beautiful navy blue gown. She look flawless.

Kristin Chenoweth looked like a gold statue in her dress. Don’t get me wrong, she looked wonderful. She just reminded me of a female version of the Academy Award “Oscar” trophy.

Charlize Theron… WOW! Simply WOW!!!

I loved Lupita Nyong’o’s gorgeous flowing pale blue gown. As always she looked amazing. I just wasn’t loving the headband. I could have done without that.

I really liked Jennifer Garner “flapper” style dress. I have read a few comments from critic about not liking her dress but I loved it. And her long, flowing, wavy hair complimented the dress.

I’m on the fence with Anne Hathaway’s dress. I wasn’t really digging it but the way it sparkled on stage was pretty cool. It was almost blinding. It was certainly unique.

Julia Roberts normally looks stunning but her dress looked like she was going to a funeral. The black lace insert looks like something that was added in after the dress was made. Maybe she wasn’t comfortable with plunging neckline and added the lace afterwards. In any event she’s looked better at awards show.

Glen Close also looked like she was dressed for a funeral. She should have added a “pop” of color like colorful jewelry.

I love Jennifer Lawrence. I think she’s a lot of fun, I just don’t like her short hair or the hair style she wore to the Academy Awards. I also didn’t like the weird flaps on the sides of her dress. The dress would have looked so much better without them.

I didn’t like Angelina Jolie’s dress. There was just something about it that didn’t look right. It was too much.

Lady Ga Ga tried to dress appropriately (no dresses covered in meat) but her dress didn’t look right. The huge pink scarf also looked silly.

I wish Pharrell Williams would have left the hat at home when he was performing.

The men all looked good. I loved seeing a lot of navy blue suits. I’m still “on the fence” about Jared Leto. He left his hair down. I’m not sure if he would have looked better if he pulled it back.

Jessica Biel was there, but where was her husband Justin Timberlake?

Ellen DeGeneres was a fabulous host. Normally the Academy Awards can be rather boring. Ellen was a breath of fresh air and made the show fun to watch.

I loved her opening stand up routine (and how she was joking about Jennifer Lawrence). Ordering pizza then asking the stars to help pay for it was funny too.

The best part of the night was the celebrity selfie that literally “broke” Twitter temporarily.

I’m sure you’ll be seeing a lot of that photo. It was all over Twitter and Instagram last night.

The musical performances were amazing. I was excited to see “Let It Go” sung by Idina Menzel. She really belted it out too.

I love the song “Happy“. I’ve loved it since I heard it from the Despicable Me. Pharrell’s performance was great – I just wish he wasn’t wearing that silly Smokey the Bear hat.

The Academy did a special memorandum for those who have passed away this past year (actors, writers, directors…). Immediately afterwards Bette Midler came out and sang “Wind Beneath My Wings“. I think that is a sad song to begin with, so it made the memorandum that much more touching. She did an incredible job too and she was NOT lip singing like other performers tend to do. Thankfully none of the performers resorted to lip singing.

There was also a beautiful tribute to the Wizard of Oz sung by Pink. Not only did she sing her heart out she looked beautiful too.

As for the awards there were a lot of surprises and heart felt speeches. For example, Lupita Nyong’o won for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years a Slave. Her speech was beautiful. Jared Leto also gave a heart felt speech for his acceptance for Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyers Club.

Dallas Buyers Club

I loved Matthew McConaughey also delivered a fantastic acceptance speech for his win as Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club. I liked his analogy for “chasing his hero”.

Director Steve McQueen jumping for joy (literally) after his acceptance speech for Best Picture for 12 Years a Slave was the perfect way to end the show.

Gravity also swept the awards show by winning numerous awards by taking seven awards, the most of the night.

So far I have only seen Gravity. I need to catch up on the award winning movies. Thankfully I can watch them from Movies on Demand. Movies on Demand (MOD) currently has available Gravity, Dallas Buyers Club, Nebraska, Blue Jasmine (Cate Blanchet won Best Actress for her role in this film), Captain Phillips and Despicable Me 2 (“Happy” was up for best song which went to “Let It Go” from the film Frozen).  To see all the available award nominated films (and more) visit www.RentMoviesonDemand.com.

I love the convenience of being able to watch the movies I want to see when it’s convenient for me. I don’t have to worry about a title being unavailable or having to worry about getting it back in time so I don’t have to pay a late fee.

Many of the nominated and award winning films are also not available in theaters. Your only options to view them would be to rent them (Blu-ray/DVD) or enjoy them any time of the day/night from Movies on Demand.

If you missed any of the award winning movies and want to see what all the buzz was about, now is a great time to view them on MOD.

You can also check out MOD on Facebook, Twitter and the various other social media sites too.

What did you think of the Academy Awards last night? What were your favorite highlights? Who did you think was best (or worse) dressed? Feel free to share your thoughts.

Good recap, Kimberly! Jared Leto can not look bad, no matter what. I’ve had a huge crush on him for the last 20 years!

I thought the Oscars were fun this year. Even the goofs like John Travolta messing up Idina Menzel’s name were entertaining.
