There’s a leak (leek) in the boat!
That is a scene from the film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 that has stuck with me since last summer when my husband and I were at the movie theater and we saw a trailer for the film.
In the scene the main characters on a car (using it like a boat) and Flint (the main character) yells “There’s a leak in the boat“. The camera pans over to the driver’s seat to reveal the leak, but it’s not a real leak, per say – it’s a LEEK, as in the onion like vegetable. When Flint yells it scares the leek and he screams back.
Here is the scene.
I knew from the moment I saw this that it was going to be a funny movie.
I was unable to see the film while it was in theaters. I have been anxiously waiting for the Blu-ray release of the film. I am happy to say that as of the 28th of this month the movie is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where the original film left off.
The people of Swallow Falls are relocated to San Franjose, California while a company called Live Corp cleans up the island.
Flint is given a job at Live Corp. He is thrilled to work there because his idol, Chester V., the CEO of Live Corp is also his idol.
Flint tries hard to impress Chester V., but it fails.
One day Chester V. summons Flint to his office. He tells them that there is a problem at Swallow Falls and he needs his help. The clean up crew has been attacked by giant cheeseburgers that are trying to escape the island. In order to stop them Flint must help them to locate his device, The Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator (otherwise known as FLDSMDFR).
Flint, along with his friends Sam, Manny, officer Earl Deverauex, Brent, his father Tim and side kick monkey Steve, head off to Swallow Falls.
A LOT has changed on the island. It looks like a jungle and it’s surrounded by gigantic slices of pie. There are also no humans on the island. The only living creatures are unusual food/animal combinations known as Foodimals. Some of the Foodimals include;
- Wild Scallion
- Fruit Cockatiel
- Hippotatomus
- Shrimpanzee
- Peanut Butter and Jellyfish
- Mosquitoast
- Tacodile Supreme
- Double Bacon Cheespider
- Cucumbird
- Bananostrich
- Watermelophant
- Meatbalrus
- Buffaloaf
- Susheep
Can you guess what kinds of animals/foods these are?’
One creature they find early on is a cute little Strawberry named Barry. He’s adorable, in a creepy sort of way. He ends up becoming their friend along with a tribe (?) of pickles.
While on the island to face danger including being chased down by the Tacodile Supreme and the Double Bacon Cheespiders. They must find and destroy the FLDSMDFR before it’s too late and they become food for the food, or the Foodimals escape the island and cause havoc elsewhere.
Will Flint find the FLDSMDFR before it’s too late? What’s in it for Chester V. if Flint successfully finds the machine? Will the friends ever leave the island? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, available where most movies are sold.
There are also plenty of must see bonus features including Attack of the 50′ Gummi Bear, Steve’s First Bath, Earl Scouts and Super Manny. My favorite was Earl Scouts.
Also included are the usual deleted scenes and audio commentary.
I liked some of the featurettes include in the film, most of which will give you a better appreciation for the film.
The featurettes include;
Anatomy of a Foodimal – Find out how the filmmakers came up with the crazy food/animal combination as well as their names.
Production Design – The filmmakers Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn share how they came up with some of the ideas for the film.
Awesome End Credits – The end credits are just as entertaining as the film. Find out all the different techniques used to make the end credits.
Cloudy Café – Who’s on the Menu – Here from all the voice actors about their experiences working on this film.
Building the Foodimals – Find out how the animators went about creating and animating the adorable foodimals.
The Sasquash – This was really interesting. Throughout the movie there is a Sasquash that is hiding in the background. It’s similar to trying to find Waldo in the “Where’s Waldo” books. Now that I know about him I’m going to keep an eye out for him throughout the film.
Delicious Production Design – The animators discuss the overall design of the film.
Plus there is a Cody Simpson for the song La Da Dee, plus the making of the video.
Overall I thought it was a cute movie. There was several funny parts, especially where Foodimals were concerned. I think the Foodimals stole the show. They were the best part of the film. It’s amazing to see how creative the filmmakers were in coming up with such unique combinations.
I don’t think this film left off with the possibility of another sequel, but you never know. 🙂
This is a fun, family friendly, crazy animated adventure that is a lot of fun for people of all ages.
Have you seen the film? What did you think about it? Feel free to share your thoughts.

We watched this on Netflix DVD last night. I laughed almost the whole time. It was so cute, and just as funny as the trailer leads you to believe.
