I know it seems a bit “odd” to be doing a giveaway for the 90’s, after all, the 90’s seem like another life time. Some might even say that the 90’s was the last great decade.

When you think of the 90’s, what comes to mind? Do you think about the music? Television shows? Political events? Technology? When I think about the 90’s I think about more personal things first and foremost – like when I first met my husband and we got married (96′), our first home (97′), when our daughter was born (97′) and when our son was born (99′).

When I think back to that decade I also think about the music. Although I still prefer 80’s music, the 90’s also had a lot of great and memorable hits like Macarena (Los Del Rio), One Sweet Day (Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men) and I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston).

The 90’s was also when Princess Diana died (97′) and when Sir Elton John’s song Candle In The Wind became a hit.

In the 90’s we had Bill Clinton and his Monica Lewinsky “incident”, OJ Simpson’s murder trial and the first World Trade Center bombing.

I also feel that the 90’s saw a huge leap in technology. When my husband and I first met in 97′ we were still using monstrous sized computers with the dark screen and little green “blip” as a curser. Suddenly there were computers where you could see photos on the internet. Video games also came a long way since I had my first Intellivision game console in the 80’s. The television games of the 90’s seemed so much more advanced.

Beepers were suddenly replaced with cellphones (they were huge!) and if you owned a Palm Pilot you must have been really important. LOL!

If you were born in the 90’s, or just grew up during that decade, you will want to mark your calendar for Sunday, July 6, 2014. Premiering at 9:00 PM (EST) the National Geographic Channel is hosting The 9o’s: The Last Great Decade? The show is narrated by Rob Lowe, who I swear hasn’t aged since the 90’s either. Ha Ha.

The air dates are as follows;

Episode 1: Great Expectations – Air Date: Sunday, July 6 at 9 p.m.

Episode 2: Friends & Enemies – Air Date: Monday, July 7 at 9 p.m.

Episode 3: Politically Incorrect – Air Date Tuesday, July 8 at 9 p.m.

I have been watching screeners with my family. My husband and I have been having fun remembering things. There as a lot about the 90’s that we’ve forgot about. This special series have reminded us of some great, and not-so-great, things about the 90’s. Take for example Waco, Texas. I totally forgot about that situation – yet I remember watching it on the news.

It’s a fun trip down memory lane for those of us who lived through the 90’s.

The best part about watching this special series with my family is watching my kid’s reaction to things. They were only infants in the 90’s. They have no recollection whatsoever.

Please note that some content might not be suitable for young viewers. Parental discretion is advised. My kids are 17 and almost 15 so they are a decent age for this. There is a segment for Jerry Springer where women’s breasts have to be fuzzed out. I just made my kids close their eyes.

The 90’s: The Last Great Decade is both fascinating and entertaining. From what I’ve watched so far (I have to finish watching Episode 3) it’s pretty amazing. National Geographic put a lot of time and research into this.

I think it would be cool to see similar series for the 70’s and 80’s too.

I’ll be having a 90’s themed party the night of the event. National Geographic sent my family plenty of goodies to get us in the 90’s mood.

Fun masks (sticks included - some assembly required). The Bill Clinton mask was smiling at me when I opened the package. LOL!
