What is your typical morning like? I know ours is chaotic. Everyone is running around trying to get ready for work and school. With only one bathroom for four people that makes things a bit harder too. There is always someone in the bathroom when you need to get in there. I’m fortunate that I work from home and can ready for “work” after everyone leaves, but I still need to get dressed, brush my hair and teeth and have breakfast.
Breakfast seems to “suffer” during the week. No one has time to make a healthy breakfast. Most of the time everyone is grabbing something and running out the door. That is not exactly a good way to start the day. You NEED a health breakfast to provide you with the necessary energy to make it through your morning, especially when you go to school. It’s hard to learn and absorb what the teachers are teaching you when your stomach is grumbling and/or your too tired to focus.
Just like a good night’s sleep, a good breakfast is an important start to your day.
On a typical morning, 1 in 4 (26 percent) American families admit they are always running in a million directions and rushing out the door, according to a recent survey conducted by KRC Research for Cheerios Protein. While nearly 9 out of 10 (89 percent) parents see the importance of starting the day with a protein-rich breakfast, more than half (51 percent) admit there isn’t time to prepare it.
These days most people are conscious of their health and the health of their families. We know that our bodies need specific vitamins, minerals, protein, calcium and other important nutrients. Even though we are aware of it, most of us don’t get enough of what our bodies need.
I try and provide my family with health foods and encourage my family to make healthy food choices. I am very happy that my kids will eat broccoli and spinach, and they often opt for raw veggies and fruits for snack, but I still worry that they are not getting enough of what their bodies need.
Take for example protein. Sometimes I think the only protein my family gets is with dinner. That makes me feel bad when I make something like pasta for dinner that doesn’t incorporate protein. If they don’t have protein for lunch and/or breakfast I worry that they don’t have enough for the day.
I’m not the only one who feels that way. Half the parents who participated in the above survey do make sure they, and their families, eat a balanced diet, but 70% of those feel that they are not getting enough protein, especially in the morning.
Some great breakfast ideas to provide you with protein include an egg sandwich (like a breakfast burrito), peanut butter on whole grain toast, Greek yogurt and oatmeal topped with nuts.
Did you know you can get protein from cereal? Many cereals on the market can provide protein in your daily diet.
One very popular brand, Cheerios, has a new cereal product on the market that provides you with 11 grams of protein with milk per serving. In addition Cheerios Protein has 13 essential vitamins and minerals and more than half of your daily value for whole grains. It’s also a good source of fiber.
Cheerios Protein combined with milk can provide you and your family with long-lasting energy.
Cheerios Protein is currently available in two flavors;
- Cheerios Protein Oats & Honey: Sweetened whole grain oat cereal with crunchy oat granola clusters and real honey.
- Cheerios Protein Cinnamon Almond: Sweetened oats and whole grain corn cereal with crunchy almond granola clusters and real cinnamon.
I received Cheerios Protein Cinnamon Almond to review with my family.
Wow! This cereal has a “kick” to it from the cinnamon. If you love cinnamon you’ll love this cereal. It really wakes up my taste buds in the morning.
We’re a Cheerio family. We always have a box or two of Cheerios in the pantry at any given time. It doesn’t matter what variety we have – my family will grab for a box of Cheerios and enjoy it, from plain to frosted and from dark chocolate to the new Cheerios Protein.
Out of all the Cheerios I’ve ever tried, this one stands out as having a lot of flavor. The cinnamon is strong with this one, which is great because I love cinnamon.
It’s hard to say if the cereal is giving me the energy I need to get through my day only because I am severely anemic and almost always lacking energy, even with a good meal.
My son hasn’t complained about feeling “sleepy” at school in the morning like he normally does. I’m not sure if the cereal has anything to do with that or the fact that school is almost over. LOL.
Regardless I am happy that this cereal is adding 11 grams of protein in our diets. That makes me feel better because I know my kids are getting a good dose of what their bodies need. Cereal is always a great breakfast choice, even for people who are on the go-go-go because it doesn’t take any time to prepare. Simply pour cereal and milk in a bowl and enjoy.
My kids have even snacked on this cereal after school. Its a great way to keep them full until dinner time and it’s a better choice than other things they could grab for like chips or cookies.
I plan on trying the other variety but for now I have a feeling the Cinnamon Almond blend is going to be a staple in our pantry.
Have you tried the new Cheerios Protein cereal yet? If so, what do you think about it? Feel free to share your thoughts.
