What to watch on TV?

Remote

My husband and I are not die hard TV watchers. We do have our favorite shows. If there is nothing on that we like watching we’ll turn to Netflix or one of the premium movie channels.

I don’t like this time of the year because all of our favorite TV shows are on hiatus until next season. Some shows won’t come back until October. That’s just crazy!

There are a few shows we don’t mind watching repeats of, but for the most part there is nothing on TV that interests us until the fall when our favorite shows return.

Thank goodness for the premium movie channels and Netflix. Actually Netflix has a few series that I have heard great things about but have yet to watch. Now is a great time to catch up on those shows and see what everyone is raving about. Shows like Orange is the New Black (a Netflix original series), Scandal and Breaking Bad. I have heard about all of them and people I know personally are crazy about them. Now is a great time to find out for myself.

Netflix Shows

Here are just a few suggestions.

1. Orange Is the New Black
2. Scandal
3. Pretty Little Liars
4. Sherlock
5. Breaking Bad
6. Parenthood

My daughter LOVES Pretty Little Liars. I’ve watched a few episodes. It’s the type of show you need to watch from the beginning to know what is going on – or just ask my daughter. Just make sure to ask for the “condensed version”. Ha Ha.

I am considering watching Parenthood too.

There are also a few “sleeper hits” that many people might not have heard of that are apparently great shows too.

Sleepers

1. Weeds
2. Call the Midwife
3. Freaks and Geeks
4. Shameless
5. Top of the Lake

I’ve heard of Weeds and Freaks and Geeks but I have never watched them.

I’m curious about Top of the Lake. I read what others have to say about the mini series on Netflix and people are raving about it. There are only 7 episodes so it would be ideal to watch on one of the days leading up to the last day of school while I still have some “me time” during the day. Once the kids are off from school my only “me time” will be late at night when everyone is asleep.

Actually, I enjoy having some “me time” late at night. I’m a “night owl” to begin with. During the day I feel the need to clean, run errands and of course blog. I like to get all those “pressing” thing done so that after dinner I can relax and not have to worry about what needs to be done.

My kids and my husband usually go to bed around 10:00 PM. I’m usually up for another 2-3 hours. That is the time I like to enjoy “my” shows and movies that I want to watch. My husband and I differ a lot on what we like to watch on TV. I let him watch whatever he wants in the evening for the most part, then once he goes to bed the remote is mine. :-)

Our cat Bella when she was kitten with our remote. She was only a couple of weeks old in the picture - now she's 3 years old.

I’m not one to snack late at night, and I would never drink alcohol late at night either (unless I was at a party). If anything I like to enjoy some herbal tea and maybe a few sweet indulgences like chocolate or ice cream.

Here you’ll find recipes for a red wine spritzer and pizza popcorn inspired by the hit show Scandal –  Snack Like a Scandal Gladiator: Red Wine Spritzer and Pizza Popcorn. They do sound delicious. Its just not something I would enjoy late at night. The red wine spritzer does sound like something you could enjoy with your girlfriends. I think my husband and kids would enjoy the pizza popcorn too.

What do you like to watch when your favorite shows are on hiatus? Is there a series you’ve been meaning to watch or catch up on? What other ways do you like to enjoy your “me time”. Feel free to share your thoughts.

We only have Netflix, but I will always heart Desperate Housewives! I tried watching OITNB, but, after the opening scene I shut it off…I am a bit insecure about watching that kind of content. Although DHW is salacious, it’s not smutty lol. I also like re-watching seasons of Alaska State Troopers.

At least one TV is on 24/7 in our house! I have never used Netflix before (I usually watch Turner Classic Movies), but I wouldn’t mind seeing Call the Midwife so I might just have to check it out!
