Do you and your family have special things that you look forward to doing each and every summer, like the first time your family gets to go to the beach or the first time you get to fire up the barbecue.
My family enjoys visiting our local and state parks often. One park we go to every summer is Bear Mountain State Park. We always go for a picnic and then head over to the zoo (also located at the park) to visit all the animals they have at the zoo which are indigenous to this part of the country. We do it every year.
This year our first trip to the state park for a picnic and visit to the zoo was a few weeks past our normal time. We usually go the beginning of summer. Now that I am back to work part time we can’t just head out to the park any time we want. Now we have to wait for the weekends which can be very crowded. It’s hard to enjoy the paddle boats on the lake when the park is crowded.
At the entrance to the park zoo there is a big rock. We like to have our kids sit on that rock so we can take their picture each year and compare it to other years. It’s fun to see how they’ve grown.
I wasn’t able to find all the photos (they are all over on various hard drives and CDs) but I do have the current one from our first trip to the park/zoo this year as well as three other photos from over the years. You can tell they were not amused this year by my son’s non-smile and my daughter’s cheesy smile.
Sadly we had a “casualty” at the park that day. It’s a long story but our daughter went to snatch her phone from my husband’s hand and instead hit the phone and it went flying and smashed on the ground shattering it. Needless to say that put an end to our park time. We had to call it an early day to get the phone to the Apple store to get fixed.
It’s not the first time we had an accident at the park. One year our daughter was running down the concrete trail where the zoo is and fell and messed up her knee and hands. Thankfully we had a first aid kit in the car but the car was parked far from where the zoo was. We had to get her to a bathroom quickly to wash it off before heading out to the car to retrieve the first aid kit. As you can imagine she wanted no part of being in the park after that.
I happened to take pictures of her “boo-boos” that day. I don’t know why. I’ll share the photo of her knee. Her hands were really messed up and gross looking.
Our son did something similar after falling off his scooter at another park.
Both first aid kits in our cars (one in my car, one in my husband’s car) needs to be updated. All we really have in them are bandaids and a few odds and ends. We really don’t have anything to clean and disinfect wounds like we should. We also should think about carrying a few first aid essentials in our bag just in case an injury happens.
There is a product on the market that would be ideal for your family’s outings just in case “boo-boos” happen. It’s called Puracyn®.
Puracyn® is a wound care product that is ideal for cuts, lacerations and abrasions. It’s also good for minor skin irritations. The product does not contain any steroids, alcohol or steroids. It’s over the counter so you don’t need a prescription.
This unique, patented solution of electrochemically treated saline for cleaning and healing wounds. The solution mimics compounds naturally produced by the body. It’s also less painful than peroxide or alcohol wipes.
Puracyn® has been tested by doctors. It’s non-irritating, non-toxic and non-sensitizing . It’s easy to apply and “mess free”.
Puracyn® is an on-the-go wound spray in a convenient, portable bottle that helps to clean wounds without the need of running water or messy ointments. It can be tucked inside your purse, pocket, tote or in our case our picnic basket. There is no need to carry around your entire first aid kit. A bottle of Puracyn® and a few bandaids should be all you need to tend to most minor cuts and abrasions. You don’t need to lug around your entire kit. Keep that in the car in case you need further aid. Puracyn® is all you need for most superficial wounds.
Ironically our daughter DID get hurt on our first visit to the park for our picnic and zoo visit – she got glass in her thumb from continuing to try and text with her phone shattered (it still worked). Puracyn® came in hand for that. We removed the glass bits and applied the Puracyn® to her thumb.
Did you know that 39% of all outdoor, recreational related injuries happen during “summer-type” activities such as biking, hiking, surfing, horseback riding and scuba diving? (Source: http://bit.ly/1rzdlyS). Even something as simple as running on a concrete sidewalk (downhill no less) could have consequences (as pictured above).
Injuries, aka “boo-boos”, can happen anytime whether you are camping, swimming in your backyard pool, roller blading or simply playing at the playground on the equipment. As a parent you need to be prepared for anything. Therefore you should pick up a bottle of Puracyn® before you head out to experience your “firsts” this summer. Puracyn® should be your first step in first aid.
Puracyn® is hosting a sweepstakes where they are asking consumers to share their summer “firsts”. Until July 24, 2014 you can enter for your chance to win one of four summer prize packages (approx. value $400).

What “firsts” have you experienced – or yet to experience – this summer?
Do you carry around first aid supplies in case of injuries?
Have you tried Puracyn®? If not do you think you will include it in your family’s outdoor first aid kit?
