I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for the Florida Department of Citrus. I received promotional item to thank me for participating.
It’s officially football season. I know a lot of fans are super excited about the.
My husband counted down to the start of football season like children count down to Christmas. LOL!
We’re such big NFL fans that our daughter knew various hand signals when she was just a toddler. If we said “holding” or “off sides” to her (as an example) she would do the appropriate hand signal. LOL!
To say we’re fans is an understatement. Our son’s middle name is after my husband’s favorite team. It was going to be his first name but at the last minute (literally the moment he was removed from my womb) we changed it to his middle name. My mother in law was not keen on the name and my husband (the “mama’s boy”) decided maybe it was best if we changed it.
We also attended Super Bowl Boulevard last year when the Super Bowl was held in New Jersey. Super Bowl Boulevard was held on the streets of Manhattan. WOW! What at that insane! I think it was more crowded then Times Square on New Year’s Eve. It was so crowded that we had to leave. We couldn’t enjoy ourselves.
I was able to get some good photos including the Vince Lombardi trophy.
When it comes to football nothing goes better then great food with great friends. Look at tailgating parties for example. I think sometimes they are just as fun as the football game it’s self.
When it comes to foods traditionally served at football get togethers most people probably think of chips, dips, pizza, burgers, wings and beer. Something that might not come to mind is Florida orange juice. That’s right, I said Florida orange juice.
Believe it or not there are plenty of great football foods you can make and serve to guests that feature Florida orange juice as one of the main ingredients.
Florida orange juice (regardless of the brand) is overseen by the Florida Department of Citrus.
The Florida Department of Citrus (FDOC) is an executive agency of the Florida government charged with the marketing, research and regulation of the Florida citrus industry. Its mission is to maximize demand for Florida citrus products in order to ensure the sustainability and economic well-being of the Florida citrus grower, the citrus industry and the State of Florida.
Incorporating 100 percent orange juice in your daily diet, either by enjoying an 8-ounce glass a day or by including OJ in your favorite recipes, can help you maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle and may help reduce the risk of certain diseases.
As a mom I want to make sure my family is getting enough of the vital vitamins and nutrients their bodies, and mine, need to stay healthy. Florida orange juice provides you vitamin C which is important for your immune system as well as other essential nutrients like folate, potassium and thiamin.
An 8-ounce glass of Florida OJ:
- Is an excellent source of vitamin C, delivering more than 100 percent of the Daily Value
- Counts as one cup of fruit, according to the USDA MyPlate Fruit Group recommendations
- Serves as a good source of folate, thiamin and also potassium, a mineral important for muscle function and nerve transmission
- Is free of fat, sodium, cholesterol and added sugar
Not only is Florida orange juice good for you it also tastes great.
There is so much more to Florida orange juice then just a beverage you have in the morning with your cereal.
Florida orange juice is a great ingredient to add into your favorite recipes to add a little “zing” to your dish.
I often make an “Orange Julius” (or as my kids refer to it as a creamsicle drink) by adding two parts Florida orange juice to one part milk in the blender along with a little sugar (optional) and some ice. It makes a great smoothie.
Florida orange juice also makes a fabulous marinade. Here is one that I tried recently with my family.
Ingredients:
- ¼ C 100% Florida Orange Juice
- 1T lime juice
- 1T jerk seasoning (I used Italian seasoning)
- 1t ginger, minced

Ideally you should let the chicken marinade in the fridge overnight. If you don’t have that much time at least marinade it for three hours.
I cooked our marinated chicken on an indoor grill. This could easily be cut up into chunks and used as part of a Kabob or perhaps to make chicken sandwiches (Focaccia or Ciabatta bread would go great with this chicken).
Recently the Florida Department of Citrus hosted a Florida style tailgating party in Herald Square in New York City. Sport announcer and Dancing with the Stars co-host Erin Andrews is a partner with the Florida Department of Citrus and she was on hand for the festivities. She also handed out samples of sweet and delicious Florida orange juice.
The official hashtags for the event was #OJSelfie and #OJTailgate.
I wish I had the opportunity to attend.
You can easily incorporate Florida orange juice into your favorite tailgating recipes or football fan favorite snacks. In addition to making a great marinade for chicken (recipe above), Florida orange juice can be used in beef, turkey and pork recipes, desserts, snacks and side dishes. You can even add Florida orange juice to other beverages too. You can find recipes for things like Orange Herbed Veggie Burgers, Orange Black Bean Burritos, Citrus Shrimp Summer Rolls with Florida Orange-Sriracha Dipping Sauce and Florida Orange Molasses Baked Beans, to name a few. All of which would be a delicious addition to your tailgating party or football gathering.
