Life is full of surprises. You never know from one day to the next what might happen to you.
Throughout history many wonderful people, both famous and non-famous, had had their lives end tragically. It’s always a sad thing but I think it’s even sadder when it’s a young life so full of hope and promise.
Some people who come to mind are Paul Walker, Cory Monteith, Brittany Murphy, Cory Haim, Heath Ledger, Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopez, John F. Kennedy Jr., River Phoenix and Chris Farley to name a few. Of course there have been many more. These are just a few that come to mind.
Another life that tragically ended too soon was R&B artist Aaliyah. She was killed on August 25, 2001, when a small passenger plane carrying her and her video crew crashed after takeoff from Abaco Island in the Bahamas. She was only 22 years old.
Coming to Lifetime television on November 15, 2014 is much anticipated original movie Aaliyah, The Princess of R&B.
The two-hour movie, executively produced by Howard Braunstein, Debra Martin Chase and Wendy Williams and staring the multi-talented actress and singer/songwriter Alexandra Shipp, follows the beautiful and talented performer’s inspirational journey. From her debut on Star Search at the age of ten, the challenges she faced during her rise to become the Princess of R&B and the legacy she left behind, Aaliyah continues to be one of the most successful artists in the recording industry and was named Billboard’s tenth most famous R&B artists of the past 25 years.
Check out the film’s trailer.
I think they did a wonderful job casting Alexandra Shipp in the lead role of Aaliyah. She does bare a strong resemblance to the beautiful singer.
Alexandra has been seen in shows such as Days of Our Lives, Awkward, House of Anubis, Victorious and Switched at Birth.
Aaliyah had a promising career ahead of her. Aside from her successful music career, Aaliyah was also making a name for herself in the movie industry too, especially her role in the film Romeo Must Die opposite martial arts star Jet Li. She also won her second Grammy nomination and two MTV Music Video Awards for Best Female Video and Best Video From a Film for her hit single “Try Again” which was featured in the film.
If you would like to learn more about this film please visit the Lifetime website – Aaliyah, The Princess of R&B.
Will you be tuning in? I hope so. I’ll also be live tweeting during the movie in case anyone would like to tweet along with me using #AaliyahMovie. I’ll have more information about that soon.
Mark your calendars for November 15, 2014 to watch Aaliyah, The Princess of R&B at 8:00 PM (EST/PST). Please check with your local television provider for the channel.
