I remember years ago that there used to be a lot of scary (and not so scary) Halloween movies, televisions shows and specials on TV. These days we can hardly find anything good on to watch to get us into the Halloween mood. I have yet to even see the Halloween movies on television. What is up with that?
Thankfully we have a lot of Halloween and scary movies on Blu-ray and DVD that we can pop in. We also have Netflix and Netflix has a lot of great movies to get you in the Halloween spirit. They even have a special section of movies they think will help get you and your family ready for the holiday. Don’t worry – not all the suggestions are scary. They have plenty of movies you can watch and enjoy with even the youngest family member.
Here are some of the suggestions from Netflix.
For the family
DreamWorks Shrek’s Swap Stories
For older kids/teens
The Nightmare Before Christmas
For the horror movie fan
I’ve seen most of these movies. 🙂
Netflix also has The Walking Dead which you can watch to catch up on any episodes you might have missed or watch the series from the beginning.
There are even a couple of Halloween movies (the ones with Michael Meyers) available on Netflix.
I came across a few I have never heard of or seen before that look cute for little ones – Curious George’s Halloween Boo-fest and Barney’s Halloween Party.
Personally I enjoy watching horror movies, but I will admit that sometimes my husband and I will watch “kiddie” shows too because they are so cute. Sometimes they are even more entertaining then the horror movies. LOL! (most horror movies these days are just ridiculous and not scary or entertaining).
How do you and your family get into the Halloween spirit? You have a favorite family tradition? Do you enjoy watching Halloween shows, specials and/or movies to get you ready for the big night? Feel free to share your stories.

What fun movies! We enjoy these types of movies year round, however, Halloween is always our favorite time to watch them.

I don’t watch TV much anymore, but I appreciate your suggestions. These are good movies to recommend to my son for his collection. Thank you for sharing!
