MGM studios is celebrating it’s 9oth Anniversary. MGM stands for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in case you didn’t know that.
Ninety years is a very long time. Happy Anniversary MGM!
MGM studios is responsible for giving us many amazing, memorable and classic films such as Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Singin’ in the Rain, Ben Hur and more recent titles like The Hobbit trilogy movies, Sky Fall and 21 Jump Street.
MGM also brought us timeless family classics such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Princess Bride.
I love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I have ever since I was a child. There was just something so magical about a car that could fly. I would imagine the places I would go if I had a flying car. Oh the adventures I would have!
Princess Bride is a very popular film. I am embarrassed to say that I have never seen it all the way through. I have seen bits and pieces of it but I have never been able to sit down and enjoy the movie from start to finish. One day I am FINALLY going to see the film in it’s entirely. That is a “goal” of mine.
Here is some more information about these and other classic family movie titles from MGM Studios.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls — start your engines. You’re about to take an incredible ride with one of the most wonderful family films of all time! With its clever tunes (including the OSCAR®-Nominated title song*), marvelous cast and enchanting storyline, this delightful romp is lots of fun and simply “toot sweet” to pass up! Dick Van Dyke stars as eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, who creates an extraordinary car called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It not only drives — but also flies and floats — as it leads him, his two children and his beautiful lady friend, Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), into a magical world of pirates, castles and endless adventure.
Set in 1939 New Orleans, this colorful, song-filled story centers on Charles B. Barkin, a roguish German Shepherd with the charm of a con man and the heart of a marshmallow. Out for revenge against his double-crossing former partner, a cigar-chomping pit bull known as Carface, Charlie finds himself guardian to a lonely little orphan named Anne-Marie. Her astounding ability to talk to animals leads this unlikely pair on an adventure packed with thrills, laughs, tears and true love.
