My family and I celebrate Christmas, but we do have several relatives and friends who celebrate Chanukah (or Hanukkah as we spell it).
To be honest, aside from the dreidel and the lighting of the Menorah, I am not overly familiar with the customs of the Jewish holiday. I suppose I should be since, as I mentioned, we have several relatives who celebrate Chanukah.
Those who celebrate Christmas have a lot of traditions like trimming the tree, watch 24 hours of A Christmas Story, baking so many cookies that you can’t possibly eat them all and decorating gingerbread houses.
Thanks to Manischewitz, those who celebrate Chanukah can decorate a house too – a Chanukah House!
The Manischewitz Chanukah House Decorating Kit consists of a vanilla cookie base and an assortment of toppings and additions to outfit the house as your imagination envisions it! The toppings include blue, white, and yellow icing, sprinkles, mini beads, fondant, sugar, and custom sugar decorative pieces of a Star of David and a Menorah, all of which are exclusive to Manischewitz. SRP for the Chanukah House Decorating Kit is $17.99.
The company sent my family and I a house kit that we can put together and enjoy (you are not required to use the Star of David or Menorah – you can built it to resemble a regular house).
We haven’t had the opportunity to put it together yet. This past weekend was very hectic with post Thanksgiving stuff and of course, shopping. We are planning on putting it together this weekend. I plan on going to the local grocery or dollar store and picking up a few extra candies in case my kids want to make it look like a holiday house. PLEASE NOTE that extra candies are NOT necessary. The kit comes with plenty of goodies to decorate it. Addition candies are entirely optional.
Manischewitz is also hosting a fun contest with the Chanukah House Decorating Kit that readers might be interested in entering.
Bring out your inner architect and craft a Chanukah House for a chance to win some great prizes. From December 9th to December 23rd, 2014 upload a photo of a hand-built Chanukah House using the new Manischewitz Chanukah House Decorating Kit. The kit includes everything you need to build a creative and tasty house!
It’s easy to enter! Simply upload a photo of your Chanukah House to the Manischewitz Facebook website (www.facebook.com/Manischewitz.) Additional materials such as sprinkles, extra frosting, cookies, candy, etc., can be used to enhance your design; the only limit is your imagination!
The Grand Prize Winner will receive $2,000, Second Prize $1,000, and Third Prize receives $500. You must be 18 years of age or older to enter the contest, however, minors under the age of 18 can submit their entry with parental permission, using a parent or guardian’s e-mail address. There is a limit of one online entry per person. For a complete list of rules, please visit www.Facebook.com/manischewitz or visit our website www.manischewitz.com/chrules.
It sounds like a fun contest. My family might enter. It depends on how well the house looks. Sometimes my kids spend more time eating the candy than decorating. LOL!

I’ll update this post once I have a picture of our completed house. In the mean time I have a great giveaway that could help you win that grand prize.
One lucky reader will receive the Chanukah House Decorating Kit to enjoy with their family (and hopefully enter the contest too!), compliments of Manischewitz.

The winner will be chosen at random using a random number generator from all eligible entries. The winner will be notified via email and will have three days to reply or a new winner will be chosen on their place.
