Debuting on Netflix is an original series called Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The show is the brainchild of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. It starts Ellie Kemper (The Office) as Kimmy, Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) as Kimmy’s boss Jacqueline Voorhees, Tituss Burgess (30 Rock) as Kimmy’s room mate Tituss and Carol Kane as Lillian, Kimmy’s landlord.
Kimmy and four other women were found living in a bunker under the ground. They were brought there by a cult leader who convinced them that there was an apocalypse and the world they once known was all gone.
The other women who were with Kimmy opted to return to their former lives. Not Kimmy. She wanted to start a new life, and in all places, New York City.
Kimmy is from a small town and is far behind on today’s world. She manages to find an apartment that she shares with a many name Tituss. Tituss works as a sidewalk character (Iron Man) in Times Square. His dream is to perform in the Lion King on Broadway.
Kimmy also finds a job with a snooty rich woman name Jacqueline Voorhees. She was hired to take her son to/from school and other miscellaneous job. However Kimmy has taken on the whole family including Jacqueline’s underage, alcohol drinking step daughter.
Will Kimmy find success in the big city? Will she find love, friendship and a new found lease on life? To find out you need to watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt which is now available on Netflix. Several episodes are currently available. There are currently 13 episodes available.
Here is the series trailer for your enjoyment.
I watched the first three episodes thus far. It’s a cute show. Kimmy is a likable character and you’ll find yourself rooting her on and hoping that she finds success and happiness and is able to make up for lost time.
I couldn’t imagine being in her shoes. Imagine being so “out of it” for many years then having to try and acclimate yourself to a whole new world.
I sort of felt that way when I returned to work after a nearly 18 year hiatus. I’ve been working since I was 16. At one point I had two part time jobs and went to school full time. I have always worked. When our first child was born it made better sense for me to quit my job and become a stay at home mom. It would have cost MORE money to put our daughter into childcare.
We never anticipated that I’d be a stay at home mom for so long. When our son was born he required a lot of therapies (Physical, Occupational and Speech). They came to our home twice a week (each) for about two years.
I have worked over the years. I had a very successful home business for 7 years. Sadly I lost my passion for it and closed down. That is the same time I started blogging and I have been blogging ever since.
I returned to the workforce this past summer. It took a while for me to get back into the swing of things. I was so used to doing my own thing on my own time. I didn’t have to worry about driving in dangerous driving conditions (snow, ice) or having to worry about being someplace at a specific time. I also didn’t have to worry about what I wore. My “work clothes” consisted of sweats and tee shirts for the most part. Now I wear nice blouses and slacks.
It took a few weeks to get used to things again, but I did. Thankfully it was a lot easier getting used to being a part of the work force again then it would be to try and get used to living in a whole new place (NYC) and a whole new world like Kimmy has to deal with on the Netflix series.
