Available today on DVD is the zombie movie spoof The Walking Deceased.
This sounds odd to say this but I enjoyed zombies long before they were the “in” thing.
Growing up I have always loved horror movies. One of my favorite was Dawn of the Dead (the original 1978 version, not the 2004 remake, although that one was good too). In fact my best friends and I were known by other friends of ours as the “Dawn of the Dead Girls.” It’s a long story how we got that name but it has to do with a band practice, hot dogs, school vacation and of course a copy of the movie. LOL.
My family and I LOVE The Walking Dead. To date we have never missed an episode. I almost missed one when I was on a press trip but my husband found it online and I watched it the same night I arrived home from my trip.
There seems to be a lot of zombie movies these days. Sadly most of them fail to entertain. They are either unnecessarily gross or it’s all about the sex and nudity.
Are you familiar with the Scary Movie series of movies? Each one spoofs other scary movies.
The film The Walking Deceased, which is released today, is like Scary Movie – but it spoof zombie movies as well as the show The Walking Dead.
It took a bit to try and identify some of the movies it spoofed. One of them is Warm Bodies, which is a film about a zombie that is some what human and falls for a human girl. I THINK 28 Days (or 28 Days Later) is also spoof because once or twice I saw reference to “29 days.” Even Dawn of the Dead is referenced in this film plus plenty of references to The Walking Dead including a sheriff who was in a coma, his son “Carl” (his name is really Chris in the film but his dad keeps calling him Carl), a guy who a toy bow and arrow and someone I can only assume is supposed to be like Michone (from The Walking Dead), or maybe he’s supposed to be more like Wesley Snipes character from the Blade movies? There are also references to Zombieland including breaking glass, a guy in a cowboy hat and how a few of them refer to each other by the cities they were born in.
There is nudity in this film (a naked man’s butt and his “private parts), as well as strippers and several people getting stoned smoking marijuana. I can certainly do without that. I don’t think it was vital for the film to show these things. I’m far from a prude, I just don’t deem them necessary for the story line.
This is a spoof film so it’s meant to be silly or “stupid silly” as my husband calls it.
The Walking Deceased did have a few chuckle worthy moments, but it wasn’t a “laugh out loud” type of film. Maybe it is for those who appreciate some of the crude humor.
In this film Sheriff Lincoln wakes up in a hospital and meets up with “Chicago” and “Green Bay,” two survivors scrounging for drugs. They invite him to join them at the mall where there are others, but Sheriff Lincoln wants to find his son and wife. He does find them – at a strip club where his wife is a dancer and his song Chris (whom he always calls Carl) runs the place.
After a mishap at the strip club Sheriff Lincoln and Chris/Carl join the others at the mall. The group then plans on going to a farm referred to as Safe Haven Farm in order to survive. There they meet an elderly couple who have no clue the world is run over by zombies, and their stoner daughter.
Meanwhile one of the zombies seems to be more human than the others. He joins the group at Safe Haven Farm where he slowly transitions back into a human.
I guess the film had potential. I just think the film makers went about it the wrong way. Where as Zombieland spoofed zombie films (and did an excellent job at it), The Walking Deceased is more along the line of Scary Movies (but less funny).
There are some bonus features including deleted scenes, movie trailer, and following around the cast and zombies on the set.
Here is the film’s trailer for your entertainment.

Thanks for the review – I’m sure everytime the sheriff mistakenly calls his son ‘Carl’, the majority of viewers smile and get it. It’s fun to watch these spoof movies and share all the references the group finds. I expect there is a spoof reason why even the guy’s naked behind is in there.
