Have you ever walked into a room and picked up the scent of something that transports your mind to another place and time? It happens to me often. I might be at a friend’s house, in a store or some other place and my nose picks up even the slightest scent that brings back memories.
To give you an example, growing up I had a lilac bush outside my bedroom window. When the lilac flowers were in bloom my room smelled amazing. Whenever I smell lilacs my mind is automatically transported back to my youth when I would see the flowers in bloom outside my bedroom window.
I have the same experience when I smell REAL pine trees (Christmas trees). It brings back memories of decorating the Christmas tree when I was younger.
Sometimes even the oddest scent will remind me of something, like my grandparent’s house, my dad’s cigars or the barn we had in our backyard for my sisters horse.
Air Wick understands how important these types of scents are. That is why they created a new fragrance line, Air Wick Life ScentsTM Collection.
This first of its kind collection features new scent technology with constantly changing fragrances crafted to mimic real life experience. Unlike other home fragrances that have just one fragrance note, each scent uses patent-pending technology with three distinct fragrance notes that are easily experienced alone but also work together to provide one harmonious multi-dimensional experience that evokes unique, personal memories.
The new scents work in “layers.” For example, with their Mom’s Baking fragrance one person might smell delicious vanilla while another person might smell something that smells more like homemade pie crush or a layer of baked pear.
You may have seen the commercial on TV with the young man who returns home and automatically smells pie and wants to ask for a piece.
To help launch the collection, Air Wick partnered with interior designer Jeremiah Brent (known for his work with Rachel Zoe + hubby Nate Berkus) to showcase how fragrance is the finishing touch to any room in the home.
Inspired by the new Life Scents Collection by Air Wick, Jeremiah has put together a list of design tips that aim to inspire every home owner.
Don’t Take Yourself too Seriously: Design at its best and purest form is an extension of who you are, and who you would like to become.
Accessorize with Scent: Scent is the final touch to a room. It’s what you smell when you walk into a home and it stays with you – it is the final frontier of a well curated home and that’s why Air Wick’s Life Scents are the perfect accessory.
Break the Rules: Don’t subscribe to the rules of design, think outside of the box.
It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint: When curating your home there is no reason to rush, it takes time to pick out the pieces you’ll keep forever that tell your own home’s story.
Invest in Key Pieces: Life’s a journey, ensure the key pieces you’re picking can go on any journey you take. The same goes with scent, Air Wick Life Scents’ Sweet Lavender Days is a great option – it helps create a sense of comfort and relaxation in your home.
Always Set the Table. Tablescapes Year ‘Round: Be sure to change up your table for every season – whether you’re hosting a diner party or a table for two, it’s important to have a centerpiece that serves as a focal point.
These are great tips.
Air Wick sent me a couple of their new Life Scents to try out for myself.
Lush Hideaway
Lush Hideaway notes of wild berry, fresh mint, and coconut water transform spaces with fresh outdoor scents.
Every time I plug this in I am reminded of grass. It’s the funniest thing. My husband and kids don’t smell it, but I do. It’s not fresh cut grass either. The scent reminds me of being at the local park with my family and watching my kids (when they were little of course) playing on the playground equipment.
I can always tell when this plugin is being used. It’s a noticeable scent. It’s not a strong or overpowering scent, but I do smell it.
Grass might now sound like a pretty scent, but when you live in a home with no yard it’s nice to transport your mind to a park on a nice, sunny day.
Summer Delights
Summer Delights sweetens the air with florals, sweet melon, and vanilla notes.
You can clearly smell the flowers with this scent. I cannot pinpoint the exact floral smell, but it’s definitely flowers. After the winter we had I welcome the scent of spring flowers.
I don’t know why this scent makes me think of this, but whenever I use this spray I am reminded of my home being totally clean (like a spring cleaning) and the way it smells because I usually have the windows opened and I can picture in my mind it being a sunny day with blue skies and just a few clouds. Its a strange thought to have when I smell this, but that is what my mind thinks about.
The new scents from Air Wick are available at mass retailers nationwide from around $4.99. The Air Wick Life Scents Collection can be enjoyed in their Everyday Collection and Spring Collection in Scented Oils (for Plug-Ins) and Freshmatic Room Sprays.

It’s so true that scents can evoke memories. I think that’s why smells are so important to me. I haven’t tried any of the new Airwick scents but can’t wait to look for them in the store.
