I find it amusing that there are so many days dedicated to unusual things such as National Fruit Cake Toss Day, National Cream Puff Day and International Fairy Day. These are legitimate “days” too… I looked them up.
Later on this week (June 19th) is National Flip Flop Day. With this being the summer season it makes sense.
My teen daughter lives in flip flops all summer long. The moment the weather gets warmer she kicks off her Ugg boots and slips into flip flips.
Personally I am not a fan of flip flops. I like how they look and I’m all for being comfortable. If it was possible I would be barefoot all the time. Growing up I rarely wore shoes – even when playing in the woods. I like the feel of grass and dirt on my feet.
The only reason I am not necessarily a fan of flip flops is because I don’t like that piece that slides in between your toes and almost every flip flop I have seen are just flat pieces of foam, and I don’t think they really support your feet, nor do they look comfortable.
This all recently changed when I received a pair of Tide Flip Flops from a company called Vionic. Vionic with Orthaheel Technology offers the ONLY sandals recommended by both the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and renowned integrative medicine doctor,Andrew Weil, MD. Vionic.
According to the brand;
Traditional flip-flops are notoriously bad for people and are flat as a board, which causes feet to flatten against their natural form. On the other hand, Vionic flip flops hug the arch of the foot for full support. With Vionic’s podiatrist-designed, supportive Orthaheel Technology, the gravitational forces that cause the arch of the feet to collapse can be reversed, raising them back into their neutral position helping to re-align the entire leg and preventing plantar fasciitis, so wearers can move to move dynamically in complete comfort as intended.
I looked them up online and you can clearly see that they are different than more traditional flip flops. They way they are curved you can tell that they provide better support for your feet.
You can clearly see the arch support in the photos below.
Even though I am not really into flip flops I wanted to give these a try. They look comfortable.
I received a pair of Vionic Tide flip flops with rhinestones – after all a girl wants a little “bling bling.”
Wow! These are not your average flip flop. These feel extremely comfortable to wear. You can see and feel the arch support. They are as comfy as my favorite pair of sneakers.
These flip flops are also very well made and can certainly handle many summer adventures.
They look heavy but they are actually incredibly light weight. I was surprised at how light they feet on your feet.
Viconic shoes are also endorsed by celebrity fitness trainer Juliet Kaska’s (clientele includes Kerry Washington, Ali Larter, Stacy Keibler, Pink, Kate Walsh and more).
I will admit that I am still not a fan of the piece that goes in between your toes and I am trying to get used to that. I haven’t worn these shoes for more than an hour or so each time, only because I’m still getting used to that in between the toe thing.
My daughter wears the same size shoe as I do. Needless to say she keeps taking the Vionic flip flops from me. She LOVES them and I know she would wear them all the time if I gave them to her. I am considering that because she lives in flip flops and I know these shoes would get a lot of wear AND I know they would be healthier for her feet with their great arch support.
Viconic has more than just flip flops. They carry sandals, wedges, flats and more for women, men and children.

Do you wear flip flops? Why or why not?

Well drats! I missed it…yesterday was the big day and I didn’t celebrate. LOL! You’re right, there’s a “day” for just about anything now. I’m glad to see that they are making flip flops that are kinder to the feet. Thanks to bunions I cannot wear them anymore. Actually, my doctor told me that other than high heels, flip flops are the other huge factor for causing bunions. Go figure.
