To be honest, I wasn’t 100% sure if this movie was going to be my “cup of tea,” so to speak. I’m not really into sport themed movies, except when it comes to football (I love football). However I heard good things about this film so I figured it was worth checking out.
I am very happy that I had the opportunity to review the movie. I’m glad I saw it. It’s a great, “feel good,” film for the whole family.
I’m “on the fence” when it comes to Kevin Costner. Some of his film are fabulous and others are just duds. Costner did an excellent job portraying Coach White in this film. In fact, this is probably one of my top favorite Kevin Costner roles/movies. I can’t see any other actor playing this role any better than he did.
All of the young men in the film who played part of the McFarland team were all outstanding. I have never heard of, or seen, any of them before. You would think they were seasoned actors. They were amazing and really made you feel for their characters.
Speaking of feelings, I shed a tear or two watching this film. Not out of sadness, but out of joy. They were “happy tears.” When you see the film you’ll know why.
This film helped bring into the spotlight how some people in our country live and work. For example, when you are enjoying dinner out at a fine restaurant, do you really stop to think about how that salad on your plate came to be? It’s thanks to many people who work long hard hours in the field to tend to, and pick, the vegetables and fruits you enjoy every day. I know it’s a job I am grateful I don’t have to do. How these people could be on their feet doing hard labor in the heat of day amazes me.
The film taught me not to take things for granted and be more mindful of the things around me and how they came to be. How much blood, sweat and tears were involved?
This is supposedly based on a true story. I’m happy to hear that. It’s nice to know that these characters are based on real people.
This is rated PG but I didn’t see anything really “bad” about it. I think younger kids can enjoy it too. My hard to impress teens even liked the film.
This is a wonderful movie to use as part of your Family Movie Night. Not only is it a feel good movie it also proves that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it and believe in yourself (and others).
Look for McFarland, U.S.A where ever movies are sold.
