As a pet “mom” I am always thinking about our pets health and happiness.
I’m the first to admit that we spoil our pets. We don’t spoil them excessively, but they do have plenty of soft, comfy beds, we gave them the love seat to keep them off our couch, and they all get plenty of hugs, pets and snuggles.
Most of our pets are getting up there in age. With old age comes health issues for most dogs and cats. We already have a diabetic cat and an asthmatic cat with heart and thyroid issues.
Our pets range in age from four years old (our cat Bella turned four on June 5th) up to almost 15 years old. Our dog Espn just turned 8 years old as well as one of our cats (they are three months apart in age).
In dog years out dog Espn (pronounced Es-pin) is 56 years old. He’s older than my husband and I.
Because he’s an older dog we need to take that into consideration when selecting dog food. Not all foods are created equal. Some are better for certain stages in a dog’s life.
Purina Pro Plan recently introduced Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ dog food. This breakthrough formula contains enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older, with visible results within 30 days.
I haven’t had a chance to try this out with our dog yet, but I am looking forward to giving it a try with Espn. Although he still seems to be very alert and mentally sharp, it doesn’t hurt to make sure he stays that way.
This week (June 7 – 13, 2015) is Pet Appreciation Week. To celebrate the launch of the new dog food, and to how appreciation for senior dogs, Purina is setting up a “clubhouse” for senior dogs only in New York City.
The Senior Dogs Only Clubhouse will feature areas to sit, stay and play with adoptable dogs over age seven, as well special appearances by a few “celebrity” senior dogs including Mishka the Talking Husky and Chloe Kardoggian.
The clubhouse opens on June 9th and is located at 168 Bowery Street. It will be open to the public from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
Attendees will have a chance to take photos with the famous senior dogs as well as play or relax with adoptable dogs seven years and older. In addition, renowned veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker will share expert advice and answer questions about owning and caring for senior dogs.
Through Pet Appreciation Week, Purina wants to encourage pet lovers across the country to show their support for senior dogs by sharing what is great about their own senior dog across the social media channels.
Upload your photos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so forth using the hashtag #MySeniorDog and tag @ProPlan.
For each photo uploaded (and tagged) the brand will donate one pound of BRIGHT MIND 7+ dog food – up to 25,000 pounds – to the Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue network to help adoptable senior dogs nationwide.
I really hope you will help and support senior dogs across the country by helping to now only get them food (BRIGHT MIND 7+) but also to help them to find their forever homes.

Do you have a senior dog? Feel free to tell me all about him/her. I love to hear about other people’s “furbabies.”
