Now available on digital download and DVD is the adult comedy Gone Doggy Gone.
The first feature film from writers/directors Kasi Brown and Brandon Walter, Gone Doggy Gone taps into the hilarious and relatable truths of how we often use pets to avoid dealing with relationship issues.
Gone Doggy Gone is about a hardworking married couple Abby and Eliot. They spend so much time with their jobs that they find it difficult to disconnect from their jobs when they are at home and reconnect with one another. Lately the only thing they seem to have in common is their adorable little Yorkie named Laila.
Abby and Eliot treat Laila as if she was a child. She means the world to them. So much so that they hired a babysitter to care for Laila when they are at work. Their sitter, Jill, takes Laila to the park, to run errands and even to the movies.
Jill adores Laila just as much as her owners. She even considers Laila as her best friend.
Lately things have been going down hill for Jill. She recently got laid off and her boyfriend broke up with her. To make matters worse she finds out that Eliot was offered a new job and they are planning on moving far away and take Laila with them.
Something inside Jill “snaps” and she kidnaps Laila. She also sends Abby and Eliot a video of Laila and demands that they pay at $30,000 ransom or the dog will die.
Totally distraught they come up with the money to pay the ransom.
Not knowing Jill is behind all of this, Abby and Eliot stop by Jill’s place to drop off a shoe that she left at their house. That is when they discover that Jill has Laila. Jill knows she’s been found out and takes off with Laila. Using an app on their phone Abby and Eliot take off after her, bringing along with them Abby’s best friend and her current boyfriend.
Along the way the group gets robbed and have to stay at a hippy commune. They even hire a questionable Private Investigator firm to track down Jill and bring back their beloved dog.
Will Laila ever be returned to her rightful owners? What will happen with Jill? Will anyone find happiness when all of this is over? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Gone Doggy Gone on DVD or digital download.
This might sound like a family friendly film. In fact, I thought it was when I saw the trailer. This film is NOT for children. It does contain sex, nudity, foul language and drug use.
Here is the trailer for your enjoyment.
Gone Doggy Gone is a cute movie. Quirky would be a better word for it.
The roles of Abby and Eliot are played by the writers and directors of this film, Kasi Brown and Brandon Walter. Initially I didn’t like their characters. They were too caught up in their jobs and they were overly obsessed with their dog, Laila. To the point where they became annoying to the people around them.
I know plenty of people who treat their dogs like children, but Abby and Eliot took it to the extreme. There is a reason why they treat Laila like a child, but you have to see the film to find out why (I don’t want to give it away).
I don’t know whether I’d want to be scared of Jill (she has a creepy quality about her) or give her a hug (you can tell she’s lonely and misunderstood). Jill is wonderfully portrayed by actress Shaina Vorspan.
There is a lot of slapstick humor in this film. I think a lot of the characters reactions to things also add to the humor.
Honestly I could have done without the sex scenes, drug use and nudity. They could have done a regular robbery and it would have had the same result in the film. They didn’t have to make the characters get fully naked (their hands covered up their private parts but there is a full naked butt in that scene).
If they did away with the sex, nudity and drug use this could have been a fun film for the whole family.
I should make note that Gone Doggy Gone is the winner of the Best of Fest and Audience Choice awards at the FirstGlance Film Festival, the Best Comedy Feature award at the Edmonton International Film Festival, and the Best Feature Film award at the Offshoot Film Festival — amongst other honors and official selections at over a dozen other festivals. The film is being released by Indican Pictures.
