The countdown has begun! My kids have two and three weeks left before school starts. My daughter starts college the beginning of September and my high schooler starts a week later.
I am so ready for summer to be over with and the kids to go back to school. Since I work and I don’t get vacation time the summer doesn’t make much of a difference. Sigh…
I am looking forward to the kids going back to school so we can get back on some kind of a normal routine/schedule. I don’t look forward to the four of us fighting over the bathroom in the morning, but the rest of the day I enjoy. Most especially coming home from work and having an hour or two to myself. During the summer I haven’t had any “me time.”
Some parents worry about their kids minds turning to mush during the summer. I used to think that way too. I still do in a way. That is why we take the kids to educational places over the summer like museums or historic site. Of course we do enjoy the beach, water parks and other fun places, but it’s always nice to squeeze in a little bit of education too from time to time.
Netflix has some programs that can also help rev up your child’s mind and get them ready for school, including a new original series, Project Mc² .
Project Mc² proves that smart is the hottest back to school trend. Follow four super-cool teen spies who show how girls can use their science smarts and math problem-solving skills to save the world. Total #SmartGirl inspo! Catch a first look here.
The show looks pretty good. I’m not sure if my daughter would be into it, but it’s worth having her check it out. She practically lives on Netflix watching One Tree Hill, 90210 and That 70’s show. Incidentally those shows all have to do with school too.
For younger kids they might want to check out these titles.
Netflix’s Ever After High’s new Way Too Wonderland adventure, which recently debuted, encourages kids to write their own life stories. Whether Royal or Rebel, your actions, behaviors and choices are your own to make. That is so true! I like that the show has a positive message.
For the littlest family member, this school year might be a first for them. I still remember when my kids started Pre-K and Kindergarten. Seems like only yesterday. Now one is in college and the other is a junior in high school. Sigh…
Here are some suggestions for little children who might be starting school for the first time this year.
Netflix debuted another new series just for the littlest family member called Dinotrux. It’s from DreamWorks. Dinotrux is about prehistoric hybrid dinosaur-construction vehicles team-up to use their different skills to solve problems and show that even the most uncommon of duos, like Ty-Rux and Revvit, can form friendships of a lifetime.
I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet.
Other titles worth checking out to help get you in the back to school mindset include School House Rock! Earth, School of Rock, High School Musical, The Magic School Bus and the classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Once the kids are back in school it gives parents time to catch up on things like cleaning, laundry and that good book you had to put down the day the kids got out of school. It’s also a great time to “binge watch” some of your favorite television series on Netflix like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Parks and Recreation, Once Upon a Time, Scandal and Revenge.
To see what else Netflix has to offer visit www.Netflix.com. You can also find them on social media.
How does your family prepare for back to school time? Are you looking forward to the kids going back to school? What do you plan on doing with all of your free time?
