I love animals. I love animals in all shapes and sizes. Even when I was a little girl I wanted to work with animals at a zoo, sanctuary and/or farm.
It makes me both sad and angry that beautiful, precious animals are being rapidly destroyed by hunters and poachers for their skins, heads and tusks. I can accept it when the kill is needed for survival. I cannot accept killing an innocent animal for the “fun” of it or to rob the animals of something (skin, tusks…).
Elephants are one such animal. These poor creatures are still be hunted for their ivory, even though it’s banned in many countries.
The National Geographic Channel has a special airing this Sunday (August 30, 2015) at 8:00 PM EST / 7:00 PM CST on the National Geographic Channel. The special is titled Explorer: Warlords of Ivory.
In the return of National Geographic’s critically acclaimed documentary series EXPLORER, follow veteran investigative reporter Bryan Christy on his daring journey to track and expose the illegal global ivory trade. Working with one of the world’s top taxidermists, he conceals a sophisticated GPS tracker inside an incredibly realistic faux ivory tusk and drops it in the heart of ivory poaching country and monitors its movements to track down the kingpins of the ivory trade.

I frequently am watching Nat Geo because, I too love animals. I hadn’t heard about these programs but, yes, I will be watching. Elephants are especially dear to me because I just love how family oriented they are. Thanks for the heads-up!
