Now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download is the romantic love story The Age of Adaline. It’s available from Lionsgate.
The Age of Adaline stars Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Harrison Ford, Ellen Burstyn and Kathy Baker.
The Age of Adaline is a love story that spans over a century.
Adaline Bowman was a young widow. Her husband had died in a tragic accident while building the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, CA leaving behind Adaline and their young daughter Flemming.
One night on her way to her parents house a freak snowstorm hit the area of California where she lived. The snow caused her car to slide off the road and roll into a lake. Between the accident and the frigid water Adaline’s body slowed down, including her heart, putting her in a state of suspended animation. She would have soon died if it wasn’t for a bolt of lightening that struck her submerged car. The electricity from the lightening jolted her heart back to life and revived Adaline. She was able to climb out of the water to safety.
Unbeknownst to Adaline at the time the combination of suspended animation and the electricity changed her DNA structure making it impossible for her to age.
At first Adaline didn’t think much of it, but it soon became evident that her agelessness was being pick up on by others – not only those who knew her personally but also people like law enforcement officers who didn’t believe her driver’s license was real since her age and her looks did not match.
Some how the government picked up on her unique situation and they tried to whisk her away to do experiments. Thankfully Adaline was able to escape.
To protect herself Adaline had to go on the run – changing her location and look every decade to avoid detection. That meant having to be a part from the people who meant the most to her like her daughter Flemming (who aged normally) and the love of her life William. In fact, William was going to propose to Adaline. Being fearful of him knowing the truth about her Adaline ran away and never got in touch with William again. Even though she loved him she didn’t want to risk her secret becoming known.
Fast forward to today. Adaline lives and works in San Francisco. She looks exactly the same has she has for decades. Her daughter is now in her late 60’s (or early 70’s).
At a New Year’s Eve party Adaline meets a young man name Ellis. It’s clear that Ellis is smitten with the lovely and beautiful Adaline. Not wanting to get involved with anyone, Adaline tries not to give in to his advances.
Ellis is not about to give up too easily. He was able to find out where Adaline works and makes a deal with her to go on a date with him in exchange for a wonderful donation to the library where she worked. Ellis made a lot of money with a business he sold and uses his money to do good for others.
Adaline is finding it difficult not to fall for the charming Ellis. Even Adaline’s daughter encourages her to let herself enjoy herself with Ellis and to be truthful with him. She finally does give in to Ellis, but she knows the relationship won’t last forever because he will age and she will not.
One weekend Ellis invites Adaline to his family’s home to celebrate his parent’s 40th Anniversary. Adaline agrees but when she arrives at the family home she gets the shock of her life.
What happens or who does Adaline meet at Ellis’ parent’s house that changes everything?
Will she eventually tell Ellis the truth or will she go on the run again like she has been for almost a century? To find out you need to pick up a copy of The Age of Adaline, now available where most movies are sold.
Here is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
I have the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of this film. When I watched the film I watched the DVD version (my husband was watching football on the TV). The Blu-ray version might have different bonus features than the DVD version.
Bonus features with the DVD include:
- Audio commentary (I never use the commentary)
- A love story for the ages – A behind the scenes look at the making of the film with interviews with cast and crew.
- Style throughout the ages – A look at fashion, hair and makeup over the past several decades.
- Discovering a young Harrison Ford: Anthony Ingruber – How the younger version of Harrison Ford’s character was discovered and cast for the film.
- Deleted Scenes
This is a wonderful love story beautifully done through film. I enjoyed not only the story but also seeing the great fashions over the years.
This part was written for Blake Lively. She IS Adaline. She’s beautiful, timeless and classic just like her character.
Harrison Ford is as handsome as ever, but I could have done without the dorky glasses he wore int the film. I also could have done without the part of Adaline putting her beloved dog to sleep.
Anthony Ingruber is Harrison Ford’s doppelgänger – not only with how he looks but also how he sounds.
I loved the ending of this film. I won’t give it away but I think it was the perfect ending.
I have three DVD copies of the film, The Age of Adaline, to giveaway to three lucky winners (1 copy per winner).

I really love Harrison Ford. I mean, since I was 14 years old, I’ve been in love with him. Now I have my real life husband, so I don’t need to marry Harrison anymore, but it still brings a smile on my face to watch him in anything. I saw “Age of Adeline” when it came out, and I enjoyed it. I feel like the beginning was a little slow for most modern audiences, which probably hurt the box office receipts, but it’s a nice story. My mother enjoyed it as well. I’d really like to own it, and I would listen to the commentary as well as watch the other extras. Let me tell you, as a long- longtime fan of Harrison’s I did a double take when I saw Anthony Ingruber. I was like, “How did they….” He’s an excellent mimic, for sure.
