When it comes to Valentine’s Day, many people enjoy gifting their loved one a heart shaped box of chocolate. I personally enjoy chocolate for Valentine’s Day – and any other day throughout the year. I love chocolate.
Purchasing a chocolate gift is nice, but making something by hand is even nicer.
Have you ever tried to make your own chocolate treats? I have. I don’t have a double burner so I simply try and microwave the chocolate to melt it. I can’t telly you how many times I over cooked the chocolate and messed everything up.
Not too long ago I was pitched a Chocolate Melting Pot by Good Cooking. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to try it.

I knew exactly what I wanted to make with this too – dark chocolate dipped strawberries.
Sadly, large, plump strawberries were impossible to find, but I did find some decent smaller ones.
This chocolate melting pot is super easy to use. All I did was measure out the dark chocolate chips I wanted to use, wait for the chocolate to melt, then dip the strawberries. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
I also added colored sugars to the strawberries (and marshmallows) to give them a more festive look for Valentine’s Day.
The instruction recommend spraying the inside of the melting “cup” with non-stick spray. I did that the first time but neglected to the second time and it still worked OK.
The instructions say that the chocolate should melt in about 10 minutes. I found that it took longer than that (about 20 minutes). Perhaps it has something to do with the type of chocolate that you use? Personally, I didn’t mind the wait. I just watched some TV and checked back at commercials, stirring each time I visited the melting pot.
I found that after the chocolate melted I was able to add in more chocolate chips, providing I didn’t over fill it.
For the strawberries I made sure to wash them first and blot dry. The kit includes a drying rack, which I used. I would recommend spraying the drying rack lightly with non-stick spray. My strawberries stuck to it pulling off the chocolate from the bottom. They still looked OK from on top and it didn’t effect the taste in any way.
My daughter made some the next day for her boyfriend. I had her put the strawberries, once dipped in chocolate, on non-stick foil. That worked better.
In addition to the strawberries I also made dipped marshmallows. I used the fondue fork to help me dip the marshmallows so I didn’t have to put my fingers near the hot, melted chocolate.
Making the strawberries and marshmallows were fun to do, even my kids helped out.
The kit comes with chocolate molds, including a bit heart. I wanted to make that for my husband but between the dipped strawberries I did, as well as the ones my daughter made for her boyfriend, and the marshmallows, I ran out of chocolate.
I fully plan on using this as a fondue the next time we have company over. I have been anxious to dip pineapple in melted dark chocolate. Have you ever had chocolate covered pineapple before? It is incredibly delicious!
I appreciate all the extras Good Cooking included with this kit. It has everything you need to get started – except the chocolate and other goodies you want to dip/cover in chocolate.
The “spout” and handle on the melting cup make it super easy to pour the melted chocolate into the molds, or drizzle it on top of other baked goods or dessert. It’s a lot easier to do – and less messy – than using a spoon.
I am going to look for chocolate molds for Easter. My kids are too old for baskets, but they still enjoy receiving candy on Easter morning. This year I plan on making my own.
I also want to look into white chocolate. I have never been able to make things with white chocolate because I used to burn it in the microwave. The Chocolate Melting Pot from Good Cooking warms and melts the chocolate gently, so there won’t be any burning issues.
The Chocolate Melting Pot from Good Cooking retails for $24.99. This is a small price for such a handy kitchen accessory, as well as for all the kit comes with.
This would make a great gift idea as well as a fun activity your family can do together. It’s also a product that can be used and enjoyed year round. I plan on putting this to great use come Christmas time.
The Chocolate Melting Pot is available for purchase on Amazon, scsdirectinc.com, cameronsproducts.com, and specialty retailers nationwide.
What do you think about the Chocolate Melting Pot? Is it something you would like for your home? What would you make with it if you had one? Feel free to share your thoughts. I always love to hear from readers.
