Most of us have spent our entire lives trying to fit in. Whenever we notice something ‘different’ about ourselves, we hurriedly try to blunt those edges and force our beautiful diamond-shaped selves into the round holes we think we ‘should’ fit into.
But enough’s enough already! You were put on this planet to burn bright and blaze a trail that’s yours and yours alone. Every time you try to stifle that uniqueness, you’re holding yourself back from stepping into the fully expressed, authentic person you truly are… which isn’t doing you or the world any favours!
So instead of stifling the things that make you special, here are 5 ways to celebrate your own uniqueness. Are you ready to burn bright?
- See yourself clearly.
Look at yourself in the mirror. Resist the urge to judge, look for flaws, or make any negative comments whatsoever. Instead, stare deeply into your own eyes and repeat this affirmation: ‘I love and accept you, exactly as you are. I celebrate your uniqueness with all my heart.’
- Ask around.
Most of us find it very easy to celebrate the uniqueness of others, yet struggle to identify our own (much less revel in it). To give yourself a headstart, go to three people you trust deeply, and ask them these powerful questions: ‘What is it about me that makes me me? What is it about me that you love and admire?’ Their answers might surprise you.
- Connect with the child within.
Find a photograph of you as a child. If that bright, innocent little creature was standing in front of you right now, what would you say to her? You’d likely encourage her, applaud her, tell her to dance like no one was watching… Know that the spirit of that precious child still lives on in you. Give her permission to explore the world fearlessly and dance to the beat of her own drum.
- Show yourself some lovin’!
There’s no better way to celebrate how awesome you are than with some sensual pampering. Try mixing up a face mask using ingredients from your kitchen (I love combining mashed avocado with raw honey, a dash of lemon juice, and a spoonful of apple cider vinegar). Or run yourself a epsom salt and coconut oil bath and sprinkle some high quality essential oils in the water. Or give yourself a full body scrub by mixing sea salt with coconut oil and massaging it gently over your body whilst you repeat ‘Thank you, I love you body’… Mmmmm, bliss.
- Master your inner Mean Girl.
Your Mean Girl is your inner critic – that voice inside your head telling you you’re not smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough, good enough, successful enough whatever enough. It’s her little whispers that keep us fearful of shining our true light. The first step towards mastering your Mean Girl is to become aware of the niggling things she says to you. Does she like to tear you down for how you look? How you talk? How you act? Become aware of when she rears her head, then gently close the door on her.
If you’d like to find out more about silencing your inner critic and celebrating your uniqueness (as well as how to apply these principles to your health, wealth and relationships) check out my new book, Mastering Your Mean Girl. You’re gonna love it!
