If you follow my blog on a regular basis you probably know that my husband and I don’t exactly have a comfortable sleeping arrangement. We have to sleep in the living room on a sofa bed. If you have ever spent time on a pull-out sofa bed – even for one night – you know how incredibly uncomfortable they can be.
I dream of the day when I can have a bedroom with a REAL bed. I have bookmarked on my computer several bedding sets that I would love to have someday.
There is no way we can put a bed skirt on our sofa bed – and having a beautiful comforter is pointless since we have to fold it up and pack it away every morning. No one sees it but us and it doesn’t matter to us what it looks like since we only see it at night just before we go to sleep. As long as it’s comfortable that is fine with us.
There is one thing we do put a lot of thought into – sheets. After all, we want to be comfortable when we sleep at night. A great set of sheets is a must on our list.
I was recently introduced to a bedding company call SOL (Sustained Organic Living). They sell organic and Fair Trade bedding.
According the brand:
Since 2012, SOL has made a sustainable difference by producing luxury organic cotton products. That means we uphold fair trade practices with our partners in India, who also reap the benefits of organic production. It also means that our customers sleep easier on soft, smooth organic sheets they can afford. To us, that’s luxury without compromise.
It simply makes sense: Our families strive to eat chemical-free, organic vegetables and foods. Why would we sleep in or wear anything else?
All cotton is not created the same way. Many of the cotton products we use today (clothing, bedding…) is made from GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) cotton. Another words it’s not real, pure, natural cotton. The seeds were genetically modified in a lab. You don’t really know what you are getting with GMO products. Not only that, they are harmful to our environment since they are not natural.
SOL uses only natural, untreated cotton. Their methods of growing the cotton seeds, tending to them and collecting them for their products are done ethically and with without harming our environment.
SOL products are:
- Grown without any synthetic agricultural fertilizers or pesticides.
- Never uses genetically modified seeds.
- Conserves soil though crop rotation.
- Retains water more efficiently due to increased organic matter in the soil.
- Controls weeds through physical removal rather than chemical destruction.
- Controls insects by maintaining a balance between “pests” & their natural predators.
I appreciate companies who have their consumers and our environment’s best interest in mind.
SOL sent me a set of sheets to try out for myself. Because we sleep on a sofa bed (which is currently put back into a couch) I don’t have an actual photo of my sheets. I think it’s safe to assume most people know what sheets look like too. LOL!
SOL sheets are incredibly soft. In fact, the more you wash them the softer they get (we have give cats and a dog – we’re always washing things). They wash up very well. There is no “pilling.” You should wash/dry them with low heat to keep them soft and not to cause wrinkling (who wants to iron sheets?).
SOL sheets are available in Full, Queen and King Size. Their sheet sets are available plain, pleated and hemmed. Currently they are only available in white, cream and a beautiful light blue. Because these are organic and made with the environment in mind I like that they are not dyed a variety of colors. In order to make them red or purple (for example) you’d have to add a lot of dye to color them and that sort of defeats the purpose of keeping these as natural as possible. Organic cotton is not purple, that is for sure.
The sheet sets are a bit pricey, but keep in mind they are organic and made with Fair Trade practices. These are not mass produced with synthetic, GMO products like other sets on the market. Like my mom always said “You get what you paid for.” Buy cheap products – get cheap products. These sheets are far from cheap – these are luxurious, soft, beautiful, quality bedding.
For more information about SOL products and their practices, visit SOLOrganix.com. They are even offering consumers 30 nights on their sheet sets. If you don’t love them you can return them.
You can save 20% on your order if you use the special discount code she20 upon checkout.
You can also find the brand on Facebook and Twitter.
SOL carries other products including lovely candles (I LOVE candles!), organic cotton body wraps (back wrap, headache pillow…) and individual pillow cases (they come in a 2-pack) for those of us (like me) who use more than one pillow.
